first of all machu picchu was amazing, but only can re-entry twice! wayna picchu was amazing too but there were only 2 slot of time 200 people can get inside each time, need to book the ticket before. My slot was 10-11 entry time, so we thought we could spend more time in machu picchu so we reached the entry gate at 11. the guard was telling us that it takes around 1 hour to go to the peak. So we run all the way....some of the hiker couldn't make it to the peak because around 12, the guard on the peak would stop people to go up anymore. be very careful of the steep road. enjoy
1.5 hour climbing up to the top of WaynaPicchu is worth celebrating, and a panoramic view of ManchuPicchu. If you plan to visit MachuPicchu, then make sure you do this challenging climb to WaynaPicchu. You will not regret !
Absolutely loved this climb and the amazing scenery it has to offer. Be warned though, it is not a leisurely stroll. The steps are steep and you climb very high, very fast.
We stopped for breaks and to catch our breath along the way, the altitude makes it hard to catch your breath even if you are physically fit.
The end result is undoubtedly worth it though.
I booked in advance to be able to climb the Wayna Picchu. What I didn't know is that you have to queue at 530 am in the morning in order to enter on the 7-8 am window I had but there were soooo many people that it took us 50 minutes to be able to get on the bus that takes you to the top of the mountain where the entrance to Machu Picchu is.
The climb was fabulous. It was exhausting but well worth it. It was safe , steep and it took sus 45 minutes to reach the top
At that time it was difficult to see Machu Picchu as it was rainy season and it was covered with clouds. We waited half an hour and the sky cleared and what a view !
The only think to consider is HS tinge at the top you have to pass between two rocks and if you are a big size you will have to crawl to pass through it.
The way down was the same 45 minutes with several stops for pictures.
The travel agency in Cusco withheld some information. When signing up, the agent was not clear or was intentionally not making it clear some of the information. For first timer, it is important to clarify all the details of the tour package. and refrain from the assumption that "everything is taken care of". e.g. when I booked the package to go from Cusco to Puno, the agent told that we would use "wonder peru" shuttle bus. This shuttle was roomy. But don't assume that when you come back from puno to Cusco, it would be the same bus. We came back on a local bus which was bearable and quite stuffy. I just wished the agent had told us and we'd have had less surprise when coming back. You would hear agent saying "everything will be taken care of". Ask the agent to get into details as to what the package covers in great details as they would intentionally gloss over some details. And when you have assumptions, you would end up paying additional (some additional charges may pop up along the way under the umbrella of "everything will be taken care of"). I believed the agent had been ambiguous intentionally as part of their salary is commission-based. There were a couple other small details that just made me feel not being treated as a customer fairly. In the end, when you pay lots of money to the tour agency, you at least want to feel being treated normally, instead of unfairly, or being cheated as they (he) withheld information. I personally don't recommend this travel agency and encourage ppl to shop around more if you have time.
It is suggested that travelers not sign up with travel agencies in Cusco to go to Puno. One can go to Puno and sign up with a travel agency in puno. That would reduce the cost by 50%, which I later learned.
I would not recommend signing up with most of the agencies in Cusco unless you really know they would deliver a reasonable OK service.
