Lovely views of this classically snow capped volcano and it's two neighbours from various locations around Arequipa

A nice Vulcano with snow, that surrounds the beautiful city of Arequipa. You can see it from any place of Arequipa

We didnt climb Misti, but we did explore the desert behind it, and got some wonderful views.

Misti has the typical 'cone' shape, and it easily spotted on the horizon.

You get great views if you take the road up into the mountains towards Puno and Colca Canyon, into the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reservation.

If you like hiking, this is definitely worth a try. We heard some horror stories before going and almost didn't go, but I'm so glad we did.
My only advice is go prepared. The agencies should have down jackets, sleeping bags, and crampons, but bring PLENTY of snacks (nuts and chocolate were the best) and layer up, because it gets super cold.
The guides take a very slow pace, which is essential with the altitude, and I found that walking sticks and a little music made the hike so much easier.
Definitely worth a try!

El Misti, Pichu Pichu and Chachani all surround Arequipa, giving the whole town an interesting and magical perspective.
They are often covered in cloud, but when the cloud clears and you can see the snow covered peaks they look beautiful.
I just wish I'd had the energy and inclination to climb them! Unfortunately altitude sickness meant only sitting and looking at them was possible!!
