VERY friendly and helpful staff, a variety of fascinating rooms (including an upstairs triple with a kitchenette), arrangements for airport transportation/taxis and laundry service (at least a day's notice). Nice small breakfast buffet, low-cost Internet access, lovely patio entry and a peaceful garden with huge succulents.

We staid for two nights at the casona solar. The hotel is situated in a beautiful authentic spanish collonial building with two court yards, 3 minutes from plaza de armas. Rooms are big and comfortable, breakfast is good en the hotel staff is friendly and helpfull. Making it one of nicest hotels we staid in in Peru.

I was stunned when I saw our room in this old mansion from the colonial era. Everything about it was wonderful--very large, domed brick ceiling, comfy bed with good linens, very tasty breakfast with exotic fruit. The garden is large and perfectly tended--not a dead flower or leaf anywhere. I'd love to stay there again, and much longer this time. The staff are very helpful too. They bought our bus tickets for us when the bus web site wouldn't take our credit card.

Chanced on this via airport problems (closed due to fog) and it was good decision to stay. My stay was lengthened due to above problem and Edith was very helpful in confirming and reconfirming my onwards plans. They provided me with a nice spacious room (was quiet when i stayed there) with view over courtyard (solar), and the owner (a Dutch man whos name I have forgotten) was very helpful too in advising on things in Arequipa. Breakfast good. Worth staying extra days in Arequipa even if it was unplanned. Would book here again.

In February we have traveled with our two kids (6 and 7) to Peru. We stayed for 10 days in hostal casona solar. The hotel is very centrally located and after the main gates, you will find an oase of tranquility in the busy city center of Arequipa.
Very safe hostal for our children, as the gates are locked.
The hostal is managed by Gertso (a very experienced Peru 'connaiseur) and his wive Edith. They are very helpful in making your stay the best experience in Arequipa.
