How nice to stay somewhere which matches the website description. Basic but comfortable en-suite rooms surround a beautiful garden - a riot of colour and hummingbirds. Apparently there's even a pet tortoise in there but we never saw it. It's a great location for a Spanish school although we weren't there long enough for that (desgraciadamente). Everyone who works at the Casa was unfailingly kind and helpful - we were very happy with their arrangements for the overnight trip to the Colca Canyon and their arranging our bus journey back to Lima.
Breakfast was strictly marshalled - woe betide anyone trying to take a second hot drink or more rolls without paying extra. This was the only slight downside to an otherwise all-too-short but very enjoyable stay - why not add a few Sol to the cost of a night and be rather less parsimonious with breakfast?
The views from the upper-floor balcony to El Misti are superb and it's only a short uphill stroll to the beautiful Plaza De Armas - eating out on an upper-floor restaurant terrace overlooking the plaza is a must.
We would go back in an instant!

Last winter, a couple friends and I backpacked through Peru. We planned 3/4 of our trip (the usual - Machu Picchu, Jungle...) and then ended up in Arequipa at Casa de Avila. Everyday, I want to go back. The rooms were huge, the breakfast good, the laundry service fantastic, and the staff were OUT OF THIS WORLD! They helped us plan a tour to Colca Canyon on the fly to see the Andean Condors, were very helpful in answering every and any question we had about their city and their country, and even took us out to see their city one night! We (my friends and I) wished we could have just stayed forever. The courtyard was beautiful and serene. And on a side note - you can get pollo a la brasa delivered from Pollo Real (the best pollo in all of Peru!). This place was the best!!!!

This is my second trip to Arequipa and my second stay at Casa de Avila. Armando has completed his work on Casa de Avila, the garden which was beautiful in 2006 is amazing now with many more varieties flowers. It is a peaceful, relaxing place. I cannot say enough about the staff. They are friendly and helpful. I was able to book my bus to Paracas there and I know they book trips to local sites as well.

Stayed here for three nights with friends. It is pleasant, clean, with a minimum of extras. For example, there were no glasses in the room so we brought two down from the breakfast area. However, the staff is very helpful, the courtyard a pleasant place to hang out and it is only a few minutes walk from the City plaza. Breakfast was simple but for a few sole you can augment with eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. The snack area is open into the evening so you can get food if you don't feel like going out to a restaurant. Considering the very reasonable price, you really get a lot of bang for your buck.

I stayed in this hotel for a few days when I was in Arequipa. The rooms are big with comfortable beds and the staff are very helpful. It's in a quiet street about 10 mins walk from Plaza de las Armas - the centre of Arequipa. It's got a nice court yard which is good for chilling out.
