“Favorite place to stay in Peru!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2011

Last winter, a couple friends and I backpacked through Peru. We planned 3/4 of our trip (the usual - Machu Picchu, Jungle...) and then ended up in Arequipa at Casa de Avila. Everyday, I want to go back. The rooms were huge, the breakfast good, the laundry service fantastic, and the staff were OUT OF THIS WORLD! They helped us plan a tour to Colca Canyon on the fly to see the Andean Condors, were very helpful in answering every and any question we had about their city and their country, and even took us out to see their city one night! We (my friends and I) wished we could have just stayed forever. The courtyard was beautiful and serene. And on a side note - you can get pollo a la brasa delivered from Pollo Real (the best pollo in all of Peru!). This place was the best!!!!

This is my second trip to Arequipa and my second stay at Casa de Avila. Armando has completed his work on Casa de Avila, the garden which was beautiful in 2006 is amazing now with many more varieties flowers. It is a peaceful, relaxing place. I cannot say enough about the staff. They are friendly and helpful. I was able to book my bus to Paracas there and I know they book trips to local sites as well.

Stayed here for three nights with friends. It is pleasant, clean, with a minimum of extras. For example, there were no glasses in the room so we brought two down from the breakfast area. However, the staff is very helpful, the courtyard a pleasant place to hang out and it is only a few minutes walk from the City plaza. Breakfast was simple but for a few sole you can augment with eggs, bacon, sausage, etc. The snack area is open into the evening so you can get food if you don't feel like going out to a restaurant. Considering the very reasonable price, you really get a lot of bang for your buck.

I stayed in this hotel for a few days when I was in Arequipa. The rooms are big with comfortable beds and the staff are very helpful. It's in a quiet street about 10 mins walk from Plaza de las Armas - the centre of Arequipa. It's got a nice court yard which is good for chilling out.

My wife and I spent the last 10 days of our Peruvian trip at the Casa de Avila hotel. What a great experience!! The staff was friendly and attentive and the hotel offered Spanish lessons in which we gladly enrolled in. The teachers were bright and serious about their beloved language. We learned quite a lot. The hotel also gave us suggestions and opportunities to volunteer in the community. My wife volunteered at a hospital and I at a special education school. The hotel had a beautiful courtyard and landscapers enhanced the grounds with native flowers and plants. A continental breakfast is included or a 5 sole option to add eggs, pancakes, and other breakfast delights.

This hotel in Arequipa was a great find with a great location and close proximity to the town center. Both of us would definitely come back there to stay.

I spent 2 weeks at Arequipa as part of the GVI program. The charming Casa de Avila was our HQ and we couldn't have asked for a better place. What a wonderful way to spend our evenings after a hard day at work, relaxing under the garden umbrellas with our Spanish lesson, while Paco the friendly neighborhood turtle nipped at the grass by our feet. The staff at the Casa are the friendliest I have met in all my travels and are the first folks to make you feel at home. I would highly recommend the Casa De Avila to anyone visiting Arequipa. It is also very well located - just a few minutes walk to the Plaza de Armis, the heart of the city and connected to just anyplace you would want to go to - even the internet :) The staff also suggest and help plan travel tours to Puno, the Salinas or even mountain biking on the Chachani! They get you great rates and listen eagerly to your stories when you get back :) You can even take Spanish classes at incredible rates, all organized by the staff. Go Casa de Avila!

A lovely caring family run this excellent hostel. We were made to feel welcome by staff who spoke English and were most helpful. Central yet quiet location only a short walk from the Plaza des Armes. A large courtyard garden around which the rooms are situated was a welcome retreat to relax in on sunloungers after a day sightseeing. Clean rooms and good breakfast. When we had to change our plans they were most accommodating.
