Javier and his partner couldn't be friendlier, and the chocolate is fabulous. Javier had a great idea and he has executed it well ... to buy cacao beans from various locations in Peru, and then make great chocolate.
I didn't have coffee at his place, but I suspect that it is every bit as good as the chocolate. One thing that Chaqchao has that you will not find at other places in Arequipa, and in particular the large local competitor in the chocolate business, is 80% dark chocolate. Peruvians like their sweets, and their milk chocolate, so it was a pleasant surprise to find true dark chocolate at Chaqchao.
We also the good fortune to try some of Chaqchao's ice cream at the Festival of Flavors, and it too was fabulous.
We only brought 2 of Chaqchao's dark chocolate bars back with us to the USA, but we wish we had brought more.
