“Beautiful old house.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014

It is a very beautiful and well preserved house. The colors are amazing, the atmosphere and the house´s furniture can take you way back in time. It is a window to the past. You can take some nice photos here.

“Average colonial type private house”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013

Nothing special about this colonial style, once privately owned, house. The interior doesn't show special wealth nor taste, the art collection is not extraordinary either. The only thing that caught my attention was the excellent collection of maps, as usual done by Dutchmen.
To me it looked a bit exaggerated to cover the carpets with plastic, but perhaps they were made of vicuña wool?

“All about Nonentity”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

This house has a certain elegance to it. Being now the property of a Bank, it is in an excellent state of repair. The main exhibits in the first few rooms tell the story of the family who bilt it and lived in it for most of its existence. They may have been locally distinguished, but frankly their lives yielded little that visitors would find of interest. The other rooms display local paintings and other works of art that, again, are not worth a journey of several thousand miles. The library is more impressive, but of course nobody stops to read the books which therefore serve a purely decorative purpose. The architectural layout is pleasing and intriguing, taking you through a delightful courtyard (where good toilets can be found) as you cross from one part of the house to another. I would hate to put anybody off a visit. You should enjoy it if your expectations are not falsely raised by some of the undeservedly ecstatic reviews of previous travelers.
