La Posada del Puente
Ranked #30 of 101 Hotels in Arequipa
Reviewed May 20, 2012

After a long flight from the UK to Lima followed by the flight to Arequipa we were welcomed to the Posada del Puente by very friendly and attentative staff. The room was not huge but had all the space and amenities you could want plus an open patio to the gardens from which we could relax, admire the three snow capped volcanoes, watch the alpacas and peacoks roaming about the listen to the roar of the river. We had no problem with the traffic noise noted by other reviewers. We needed to relax to acclimatise to the altitude prior to our next stage of our Peruvian trip and this hotel provided the perfect opportunity. We had an early start the next day so opted for a large lunch rather than dinner and this was perfect. An excellent salmon dish with local veg and rice followed by a very tasty (but indecipherable local name) dessert all washed down with Cusquena (local beer). Coffee (good), Tea (pure or Coca) and water were all available at no cost. The hotel is witin easy reach of the city cultural centre even though you do have to cross the busy bridge to get to it. We didn't find that a problem. As a stop-over prior to further travels in Peru, especially to the higher Andes, this hotel provides an excellent and very comfortable base to acclimatise to the altitude. Coca tea and Sorrochi pills (Aspirin, caffeine and an anti emetic - available over the counter at pharmacies) also help reduce or prevent altitude sickness in some folks - unfortunately not my wife who was ill for 48 hours!

Room Tip: Ask for one that opens directly onto the garden and maybe towards the river as this could provide a...

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights on the first leg of a tour of Peru. staff very helpful and friendly and able to answer our queries in English. Sat in the garden on the first afternoon to acclimatise oursleves to the altitude. despite the traffic noise it was a haven after a long flight from the UK. We had breakfast in the garden overlooking the river and the omelettes were very good. Dinner on the first night preceded by a Pisco Sour was very welcome. Lovely hot shower only negative the bed was a smallish double and we didn't sleep terribly well. Many of the rooms seem to have direct access to the garden or a balcony but despite the hotel not being very busy our room had neither. A shame because we liked the garden very much. Never mind a good start to our 4 week trip!

I stayed here for 5 nights over New Year. The staff were always helpful and friendly. I returned to my room one evening to find my wet clothes (I was caught out in a storm) which i had left draped on the towels had been hung up near the heater (turned right up) to dry. There was free (real) coffee, water and fudge in reception all the time. The bar and restaurant staff were friendly and the food good. New Years Eve was a bit difficult as the dining room had been hired out for a party, but they found me some food. Other people have commented on the main road location: I was not bothered by traffic noise but was glad the road was always busy when I wanted to walk to and from town.

This could be really good with more care and a room refresh. The rooms are rather tired in decor and need an update, the corridors dingy. The best feature is the gardens with alpacas and roaming peacocks which come right up to your door. Lots of gardeners mooch about all day, yet the gardens look a bit ragged and undertended at the same time. You can see river and mountains from the garden.

The real shame is that its located under a very busy traffic bridge you have to walk across to reach the centre. Its very very smoggy and noisy and not pleasant at all. We heard traffic horns from 5 AM in our room. Otherwise it is near to the centre.

Unlimited free water and coca tea in reception is good. The restaurant is a bit old fashoioned too, and breakfast rather humdrum, with alot of flies in the room whch arent cleared from the windows.

Room Tip: further away from the road bridge recommended

Nice location on a river bank adjoining a bridge into the colonial city centre, pleasant grounds and nicely designed buildings. Nice welcome.

The rooms are quite small, and beds very hard and small. No air conditioning, but traffic noise from the bridge was too loud to have the windows open. Heating inadequate in the bedroom, and non-existent in the bathroom - common in Peru.

Breakfast served in pleasant garden (indoor option if desired), but it was waiter service, which was slow.

This was my 3rd business trip to Arequipa and have stayed at La Posada del Puente each time. The facilities and location are nice (well maintained, charming, good restaurant, walking distance to city center), but the best feature of this hotel is the staff. Friendly, helpful, good restaurant recommendations, happy to assist people with little or no Spanish skills. Great customer service. Come once for the facilities, come back for the people.

It is a very nice surprise to see that right under a busy bridge there is this nice hotel. It is an odd location but it is well done. Breakfast was nice and it also includes shuttle to the airport. It is a very good option to visit arequipa as it is only blocks from the historical center. I recommend it. Wi fi is spotty but free.
