Owner description: Considered a masterpiece of colonial architecture, this monastery is a large complex of rooms, picturesque plazas, ornate fountains and a maze of narrow, cobblestone streets.

A few hours wandering around here is fabulous, get one of the guides tell are very intellegent, multilingual make sure to tip, remember how much you pay to do things back home why be so tight in Peru? I see this alot from travellers in lesser well off countries and it bugs me!!. fabulous history, beautiful peaceful setting, like a time machine.. the do night tours 2 nights per week very special

Restored and opened to the public in 1970, this site is pretty much beyond understanding, comprehension. You feel like you're stepping back into the late 1500s, when about 200 nuns and their servants ruled in this little city with streets, houses, an infirmary, lots of kitchens, fountains, receiving rooms, and little houses all within the content's outer walls. The place is a photographer's dream in the daytime. We're going back again, for a nighttime walk around, which happens on T and TH nights. Such an amazing place. Read about it before you go, though, as some histories are more interesting than others. Nice coffee shop about halfway through, provides beer, espresso, and a nice garden area.

I had read to visit this in late afternoon for wonderful photos of the sunlight playing, and that advice was spot on. The colors of the monastery are fabulous, and the sunshine really created lots of special photos. This place is quite large and rambling, I'd say to count on at least an hour but depending upon your energy and enthusiasm, you could probably spend much more time. We did NOT take a guided tour, but were not sorry to have skipped it. I had some information on the place from my advance research and there was a minimal brochure in English.

Very interesting place, beautiful reconstructions.. It is actually huge. The entry and the first room is just an entry, so do not be disappointed or give up. Further is a great history shown.
I could really see there how they were living there.
It is not like a normal museum , it is the reconstructed house with excellent colours!
this one, for me was a real (only one) must to do in Arequipa. The rest was nice to do or not but this one is a must.
