This is a lovely small restaurant that specializes in potato dishes with delicious topings. The owner was very friendly and attentive. The food was good and glass of red wine was only 6 soles. When we arrived we were asked to play a small quiz with discount or free drink as the prizes. A must do in Arequipa!!

“A cute little place...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

We ate at Hatunpa after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. The place was full when we arrived...it is not too big...maybe 5 or 6 tables? The food was tasty...not amazing, but good. Colorful little place & interesting offerings. Worth a visit!

“Brilliant, just brilliant!”

Wow, what can I say to do this place justice. It was awesome food with a fantastic service. If you love potatoes, you will adore this place. The lady serving the food was extremely helpful and allowed us to try two free drinks as part of our meal. Dessert options are also very enticing. If your in Arequipa, be sure to stop by. For a vegetarian like me, this place was perfect.

It is small with only 3 or 4 tables. I booked a table in advance by calling an hour before arrival.

“Soooo many potatoes!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

Interesting, unusual restaurant where every dish is potato based!
Peru has hundreds of potato varieties, grown on the inca terraces - and Hatunpa serves these potatoes in many different dishes.
Great idea to have tasting sizes so you can have a selection.
Great value too.
The owner is friendly and informative without being in your face.
Worth a visit - especially for lunch. Only a few tables so you may need to book for dinner.

“Cheap, tasty, filling and friendly”

We followed the trip advisor reviews to Hatunpa and weren't disappointed. It's a tiny place with three tables - we popped by to reserve one and headed out for a drink first. The owner was really attentive, but unobtrusive - he offered us samples of the drinks available to help us choose which was a lovely touch. Trying to name all the flags on the placemat kept us entertained for a while - especially when we were offered a free desert if we could name 30!

We ordered deserts and one we loved - a type of papaya marinated in wine, served with ice cream, was delicious, but the other (sort of like a rice pudding but with potatoes, served chilled, with cinnamon) didn't really float our boat.

The potato dishes though were delicious - we both ordered side dishes as well, and despite huge appetites, were a bit overfaced! It's definite value for money.
