The food was nuevo andino, extremely tasty and well prepared. The rooms are well appointed and quiet -- perfect for conversing. The chimichurri was the best I've ever tasted. Yum! Don't pass the one up if you're looking for a great meal.

“A Pleasant Surprise, if You Can Find Service”
Reviewed September 30, 2011

Alma Cocina Vina is the hotel restaurant of Casa Andina Private Collection. While the restaurant isn't something to go out of your way for in a city filled with excellent restaurants, if you're staying at the Casa Andina, take one night out and give Alma a shot. We had pretty low expectations after receiving our very poor room at Casa Andina, and then we came to the restaurant and there was no greeter or server to be found for quite some time. We finally walked to the back of the restaurant and found the only server/greeter reading the newspaper. "Oh boy, this was a mistake", we thought.

Then we tried to order wine, but the first three we ordered from the wine list they didn't have. Finally we asked our server to point out to us which ones they DID have, and there were two out of about 15 on the list. Luckily the one of the two we picked was pretty good. We waited a really long time for our food despite being one of only two couples in the restaurant, but when it finally came we were shocked and amazed that it was actually really good! Both dishes we had were very tasty (an Alpaca steak and I forget the other one now), much better than expected.

Later in our stay, we had a soup ("Peruvian Minestrone") and a carvers plate and they were both very nicely done. That time, we also had to go hunt down a server, and wait for them to set a table for us. The service, once we found it, was very friendly and nice, and provided an enjoyable experience for us.

Prices are in line with a nice restaurant in Arequipa - about $10-$12.

“I was waiting for a year for this dinner”
Reviewed August 15, 2011

Visiting Alma after one year was like a dream come true!
The menu was changed since last year but the quality of the cousine not...it remained as good as I was dreaming it for almost a year.
An amazing alpaca dish with a delicious triple papaya Arequipena ice cream dessert for the end.

The only disappointment was an anoying gentelman from a neighboring Peruvian country constantly complaining about the cousine, speaking loudly and blowing his nose like he was alone in the whole restaurant!!
If you are such a grinch senior..next time please stay at home!!

“The best surprise we had in Arequipa. Peru at it's best.”
Reviewed July 29, 2011

The Alma restaurant is excellent!
It has a wonderful athmosphere, a very attentive service and wonderful dishes!
The highlights were a plate of tenderly cooked filet mignon with potato and garlic mash and a pork belly cooked for 36 hours served with leek puree. I rarely had such an excellent pork.
For Europeans the prices are cheap: we had a two course dinner with water and wine for 200 Soles (50 Euros) in total.
Go there! You will never regret it!
