“Great food”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

Having lived in Arequipa for a while I visited this restaurant many times. There are several other good restaurants in Arequipa but this would be my choice every time.

Added to this the waiting staff are excellent and the surroundings are beautiful. Santiago is one of the most hospitable waiters I have encountered.

“Great food and drinks”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

We came here with a party of six for dinner on a Friday night. We were seated quickly and served promptly. This place is right near the heart of Arequipa. The bread selection was awesome and the bar was above and beyond full service. The waiters and us didn't have too much of a language barrier. Pricier by Peruvian standards but appropriate by US standards. Everyone loved their food. Portions were big, and they had all the Peruvian staples (and Arequipa river shrimp). I got the beef breast my tour guide told me was a local staple, and it was great.

“What is all the hype about?”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

We had lunch at Chicha. The setting is lovely. The service was fine. The food was good but not better than many other restaurants in the city, which are a lot less expensive. Chicha did not live up to my expectations based on the other TripAdvisor reviews.

“Great restaurant,”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

Came here twice while in Arequipa, and we were thrilled both times. They serve fantastic pisco sours and have a great wine menu (their cheaper malbec selection is great). Their food was so good, we chased down Gaston Acurio restaurants for the rest of our time in Peru. The rocoto relleno is amazing (if you like spicy food), and the ceviche and corn ravioli are also certainly worth a try. The cuy frito (fried guinea pig) was also quite worth a try for anyone adventurous out there! This restaurant is a must-do in Arequipa. Its not the cheapest restaurant in town, but I wasn't disappointed- for 2 people: 2 pisco sours, 2 starters, 2 mains, and a bottle of great Malbec for 50usd each. At least half the price of anywhere in NYC or London, but then again, that's expected for Peru.

Downsides: the service is a bit slow at times, and it really helps if you know Spanish. The atmosphere inside isn't as nice as it is outside (which isn't a problem during the milder times of year).

All in all, I had two great dining experiences here and would highly recommend it to anyone in search of great, modern Peruvian food.

“Get the rocoto relleno.”
Reviewed April 10, 2014

Tried a local dish- rocoto relleno - it was so good we ate there 2 nights. Good piso sours - we got them "dry" - no sugar and they were quite good. Nice interior - like an old wine cellar - with curved stone ceilings. Set back away from street. Great service and very reasonable prices. Good wine selection.
