Description: The Alpandina dishes offered by the Zig Zag Restaurant are the result of a creative culinary fusion deeply rooted in the mountains, where the sun endows foodstuffs with energy and balanced components. The dishes most representative of Alpandino gastronomy arise from a marvellous synthesis of unique time-hallowed ingredients from all over Peru, combined with ancient and modern culinary techniques from the Alps and the Andes. One of the results is our great speciality: Volcanic-Stone-Cooked Meats and Fish. This culinary concept was generated specially by the restaurant's proprietor and Chef, Michel Hediger from Switzerland. During the course of many years in Arequipa, Peru, he has developed an original gastronomic proposal which enables one to savour different kinds of food prepared in an exclusive, healthy and very natural style, so that the restaurant's customers might compare and enjoy the country's different flavours. Located in the Historic Centre of Arequipa, opposite the lovely Plaza San Francisco, the Zig Zag Restaurant, with its impressive cast iron staircase designed by the famous French architect Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, is a unique place to enjoy a gastronomic evening with a difference.

Do not hesitate to visit this restaurant! You will be surprised!
The food is awesome, very tastful and the plates and food is made up wonderfully!
Try the tricolo special of meat or fish. The best choice!
Even the starters are spectaculair.
Price is also fair.
Enjoy your meal!

“Not the best in Arequipa”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

It is possible that we may have come on an off night for Zig Zag. The service was ok but nothing great. Although not necessary, we did not find that the service staff spoke English as noted in other reviews. That aside, the food was good but I may have been over hyped by TA reviews. I had the meat trio on the lava rock. The meal was good but not the best in Arequipa. The lava rock food treatment and the complimentary bibs was a bit touristy for us. And warning, if you have the lava rock service, you will smell like it the rest of the evening. I would try for a lunch next time.

“There is no excuse not to eat a meal here”
Reviewed February 18, 2014 via mobile

For us it was a late Valentines day dinner. Service and quality of food was the best we've had in Peru. We made a 7pm reservation and when we arrived the restaurant was nearly empty. We were guided upstairs to a table which overlooked the street and park outside. Just as we say down all the other tables began to fill up. Our starter was outstanding, fresh and full of flavor. We didn't think our main could be better but it was. We enjoyed every bite. You will love it.

“Try the alpaca steak!”
Reviewed February 16, 2014 via mobile

This is a delightful restaurant. We arrived tired and hungry after touring around the town. We had 2 small children in tow! A suitable table and high chair were quickly found and we were made to feel very welcome. The children were immediately given substantial coloring books and crayons to entertain them while we perused the menu. Lots of choice ! But since we were in the land of the alpaca we chose the alpaca steak served in a sizzling volcanic stone. Sensational. The accompanying sauces were so tasty and we oohed and saved our way through the meal.

Service and ambiance could not be improved on. I highly recommend Zig Zag for a memorable meal and experience in Arequipa.

“Almost perfect”
Reviewed February 14, 2014 via mobile

My boyfriend and I ate here for our anniversary and enjoyed the evening very much but for one thing: it was over far too quickly!
We ordered a cocktail which arrived only shortly before our starters, and our starters were cleared away only minutes before our mains arrived with our wine - we actually ended up finishing the cocktail for dessert!
In short, we felt really rushed and it was all over in about an hour and a half. The waitress even asked if we needed a taxi before we'd even asked for the bill (we were still finishing the cocktail).
Thankfully the food was so delicious that everything else faded into the distance. I would definitely go back (with a special request of at least twenty minutes between courses). Ask for a table for two in the window overlooking the plaza and definitely have a dish involving alpaca, it is divine.
