Description: The Alpandina dishes offered by the Zig Zag Restaurant are the result of a creative culinary fusion deeply rooted in the mountains, where the sun endows foodstuffs with energy and balanced components. The dishes most representative of Alpandino gastronomy arise from a marvellous synthesis of unique time-hallowed ingredients from all over Peru, combined with ancient and modern culinary techniques from the Alps and the Andes. One of the results is our great speciality: Volcanic-Stone-Cooked Meats and Fish. This culinary concept was generated specially by the restaurant's proprietor and Chef, Michel Hediger from Switzerland. During the course of many years in Arequipa, Peru, he has developed an original gastronomic proposal which enables one to savour different kinds of food prepared in an exclusive, healthy and very natural style, so that the restaurant's customers might compare and enjoy the country's different flavours. Located in the Historic Centre of Arequipa, opposite the lovely Plaza San Francisco, the Zig Zag Restaurant, with its impressive cast iron staircase designed by the famous French architect Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, is a unique place to enjoy a gastronomic evening with a difference.

Once my wife and I learned that this was the number one rated restaurant in Arequipa we were determined to try. Unfortunately the experience did not quite live up to expectations nor was the restaurant quite as good as some of its local rivals - specifically Chicha. The food here is a Swiss-Peruvian fusion and so you can order fare from both countries including Swiss founde and Peruvian cuy. We found the flavors a little bit disappointing. None of our dishes really stood out at all. The service was excellent and the location is lovely as many reviewers have suggested but to be number one the food has got to be the hero and unfortunately it was not.

This restaurant definitely deserves it's top billing on Trip Advisor! We came here twice, once for a cocktail and then once for dinner. We got the volcanic rock dishes - I got fish and my friend got a meat medley. It was delicious and the sauces were great and the service and atmosphere were awesome. A bit of a splurge but worth it.

Very nice restaurant. Nice atmosphere, very friendly staff. It is the place to eat good meat, be it on a hot stone or by fondue. We enjoyed the evening very much.

Recommended and booked for us by our tour guide, we had a table overlooking the street. The restaurant is quaint and quite lovely. Good food, very friendly. You will need to book as it is very popular.

This is my favorite restaurant in Arequipa. All meats and fishes come in a volcanic stone and straight from the kitchen. The food is very good. We had the meat carpaccio for starter and the meat trio for main dish. Everything was delicious. The service is very good. If you are going with a group bigger than 4, you must do a reservation specially on Fridays-Saturdays. The place is very popular but is small so you should consider your party size. Is more expensive than the majority of the restaurants in Arequipa but is worth it. We had a good time, the drinks are good and food amazing, you can´t ask for anything else.
