The owners Celso and Gulnara speak fluent English , not common on Isabela . Gulnara is a very, very kind women , she teachs English in the local school and Celso is a naturalist guide . He knows everything about this magnificent island.
Carthago Bay is located in the mangrove ,close to the beach .It 's quiet , the rooms have good beds and a small fridge.
Well recommanded.

If you are going to go to one island in the Galapagos, Isabela is the one to choose. I have been to most of the islands several times now, including on boat tours, and this time I feel we totally lucked out by being personally referred to Cartago Bay and its owners Celso and Gulnara. Celso is a native Galapagan naturalist who is an absolute font of knowledge about all aspects of the islands, the natural world of course, but also the political/historical dimension, and so is an amazing guide. Gulnara is charming, friendly and smart and runs the place with love and care. Although they only have two cottages at the moment, both were good-sized, pleasant and clean and had small fridges were were useful. There is no AC, but the fans were perfect. Others are to be built in the near future. The location is great, in a mangrove, very close to the beach, but not on it, which for us was good because the small hotels on the beach seem to be frequented by a young crowd and so are a bit noisy at night. Rates are very very reasonable and for a small extra amount, we were served breakfasts, and went to some local restaurants for other meals. Guiding is extra of course and so well worth it. We all agreed that Celso is himself a small treasure of the islands, and he made sure we saw everything we could on land and at sea --- and snorkling during our three days there, and gave us excellent information on everything, including the dangers facing the islands at this point in time. His enthusiasm and passion for the Galaoagos is extraordinary. We plan to make a beeline back as soon as we can and look forward to it. By the way, we took the boat from Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz to Isabela but most people on the boat, including some of us, got very seasick, so I would recommend the small plane for those for whom rough seas for two hours may present a problem.

Please note that Celso and Gulnara speak English but we spoke mainly in Spanish to them. I am not sure that the communication would have been as fluid if none of us spoke Spanish, but it is still a charming and low impact place to stay on a magical and fascinating island.
