Amazing view, decor, service, and food!!! Came here with 2 friends and we were blown away by the quality of the service and food, but mostly how it feels like you are in an upscale garden somewhere in europe! Octopus appetizer was amazing. I had the fish of the day, my friends had the creole rice and the chicken and we were all very pleased with our choices.

My husband and I ate twice at El Mercado in our 5 day visit to Cuenca this week, and we enjoyed the food immensely. Lots of flavour, great cuts of meat, beautiful fish dishes, and my favourite- wonderful veggies. Our waiter, Ángel, was most attentive, without hovering. The drinks were excellent, especially the Moscow Mule!
The only comment we have is that the desserts are twice the price of elsewhere and half the size. They did not measure up in taste to the rest of the menu.
We will definitely go there again on our next visit to Cuenca.

Very disappointed after reading all of the great reviews.

My rack of lamb was lacking flavor, chewy and impossible to cut as I did not receive a steak knife.
Corvina was dry and way overcooked.
Happy hour cocktail was tasty but short-poured during happy hour and then regularly poured after happy hour - that's a cheap move
Service was horrible. We are fluent Spanish speakers and got the waiter for the gringos who talked to us like we were idiots, spent all of his time wiith his "favorite" tables and rolled his eyes that my wife wanted to take home her left over salad.
The little brownie bites served as a thank-you at the end of meal sit out all night on a sideboard in the open air and around service items - I suggest you avoid these.

I'm sure there are better restaurants in town - if not Cuenca is doomed.

Lamentamos que su visita no haya estado a la altura de sus expectativas, quizá antes de su regreso a Cotacachi podamos contar con su presencia para ofrecerles lo mejor de nosotros como lo hacemos con todos nuestros clientes.

My husband and I went to El Mercado for a romantic dinner on Thursday, April 25. I simply cannot tell you enough about how wonderful our entire experience was from start to finish! We had the fried goat cheese salad for a start. This salad was amazingly fresh. Presentation was on a large sharing board. Crispy greens and really nice flavors with plenty of fried soft cheese balls. We love steak and so for our main course we shared the T-bone steak for two. This was delivered in a beautiful manner. Again the serving portion was ample. The steak was paired with a selection of cooked vegetables. In particular our favorites were the organic heirloom tomatoes (to die for!) and the mushrooms were served in a delicious cream sauce...we absolutely loved those. For dessert we chose chocolate creme brûlée and the selection of ice creams. I can’t say which was best because I really loved them all. If you try the chocolate, don’t miss the tiny (dried?) strawberries to go along. All of these foods were truly gourmet productions.
We also enjoyed caipirinhas...beautiful and very fresh! Last but not least I want to call out our amazing waiter, named Huber. His level of service was first class, his recommendations were well thought out and proved very meaningful. He is charming and welcoming...certainly a professional.

I visited this place during a business trip to Cuenca. Here’s my review about it

- Service...simply amazing
- Cheese Table (Entree): Outstanding
- Location: Great view and nice area
- Good food but not outstanding

- Food won’t be as incredible as you might expect. Is certainly good and nice, but it was below my expectations. In particular, I ordered their rice with sea food (top dish in the menu) but it was a bit greasy and barely with enough rice. My colleagues had similar opinions about their main courses.

Overall is a place that you must visit, but maybe they should be a bit more strict in their kitchen, especially because it is not a cheap place.
