We stayed at Mansion Alcazar for one night during a 48 hour visit to Cuenca. The hotel has been created from a stylish Spanish colonial mansion, offering opulence and modern amenities in a most attractive setting. The inner and outer courtyards are stunning. Our room was very comfortable, with a few quirks as one might expect in a converted older building. We enjoyed comfortable beds, plush towels, and very nice products in the bathrooms. The flat sceen TV gave us access to international stations in English, which we were craving after our Galapagos cruise, when our access to news media was limited. We had a great meal in the hotel's attractive restaurant, and we're pleased to meet the chef, who came out to inquire about our experience. The hotel staff are welcoming, gracious and very helpful. There are beautiful flowers inside and outside the hotel -- truly stunning.

Since we had a delay before our flight departure from Cuenca, we enjoyed relaxing in the hotel's bar, and and enjoyed a few snacks and drinks. The hotels was more than happy to look after our belongings as we enjoyed our second day exploring Cuenca with our guide. The hotel is centrally located, in a nice area.

I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely hotel to Cuenca visitors

Cannot say enough about this hotel.
When we arrived - that's before even checked in - someone was there with a tray of wash towels to refresh ourselves, followed by a tray of amerettos, to alleviate the stress from travel. The service continued at that level throughout our stay.
The setting is Spanish Colonial, luxurious, with all modern amenities. Our suite was exquisitely appointed and very comfortable with wi-fi and TV.
The beautiful restaurant, with its 3 settings (small main dining, conservatory, and garden) was so wonderful that we had all our meals there (that's right, we didn't even try Cuenca's highlights), and afternoon teas in the salon, as well.
The staff goes out of their way to please and always succeeds!

Decided to treat ourselves and booked a suite for Christmas but our stay here ended up being the biggest disappointment in an otherwise fantastic months holiday in Ecuador and Galapagos. Hopefully other guests will have a better experience as our main issue was that the 'romance package' we had booked never appeared, despite asking multiple times. When we complained we were dealt with very nicely/professionally. Perhaps this was because we were not dressed very smartly (we packed lightly as we had taken our own dive gear for the Galapagos). Otherwise the actual hotel is lovely and the staff working away from the front desk are excellent. We didn't think that the hotel restaurant was great for dinner (breakfast was probably the best we had in our trip) - food was good, but not amazing, and the service was much too fast (we were in and out in under an hour!).

BTW we stayed in the Cielo suite - the bedroom and lounge areas are lovely but the bathroom really needs a refurb (it is old and the toilet has a dis-coloured spongey seat - yuk!). The suite is above the restaurant and the noise was annoying if you want an early night or a lie-in.

We found this hotel to be one of the best experiences in hotel staying during our travels. The service was excellent, the staff were delightful, the location perfect and the food outstanding. We had the suite which was huge and perhaps a bit big for us but it felt wonderfully luxurious.

Tipped off by a recommendation from a lifelong resident of this lovely, little town, we were enchanted by this beautiful, boutique hotel in Cuenca. The hotel radiates an Old World Spanish charm, complete with interior courtyard and fountain. Each room has its own unique style; they are spacious and comfortable. In the back of the hotel, an equally enchanting garden, in which drinks and snacks are served throughout the day, awaits the guests. One of the nicest features is upstairs on the second floor; a sprawling 'en suite' arrangement of sitting rooms and library beckons travelers to relax and chat, or to pull out a favorite book and get absorbed in its pages. The staff could not be more friendly or helpful, nor the pricing more attractive. Perhaps the crowning glory: turn down service includes warm water bottles tucked into the foot of the bed to ward off even the slightest chill that might come from the fresh evening air. (Cuenca is at 8,000 feet altitude - perfect for the equator!) We would come back here in a heartbeat.

We had a lovely room, accomodations are elegant, staff is super attentive. The chef Clayton is amazing and the food superb. It is near the old part of town but not so near that the traffic is a problem. It was a perfect stay and would go back in a heartbeat!
