Alfonso Urquia is the delightful, big-hearted Spaniard show recently opened Chartres Cafe to serve excellent sandwiches, numerous gourmet coffee drinks, varied desserts, and even artisan cheeses, in a quiet, comfortable setting. Alfonso also has a library of 200 books for people to peruse while lingering over their coffee or checking their emails in big, soft, easy chairs. I especially like his (large) Serrano ham sandwich on a baguette, while my wife favors the shrimp sandwich, and a friend of ours really enjoys the smoked salmon sandwich. We really like Alfonso's cappuccinos and lattes as well. He is open from 9 am to 1 pm, then from 3 pm to 9 pm (with the afternoon break used to shop for fresh ingredients for the evening meal), on Ave. Ordonez Lasso about two-thirds of the way from Ave. Las Americas to the Hotel Oro Verde.
