Been here many times before, always happy. Last time we were very disappointed. The ham was chewy and dry, almost seemed that it had been fried to reheat. Will not be returning any time soon.
Maybe weekends are best time to try, stick to the sandwiches.

My husband and I have visited this restaurant numerous times, sometimes for dinner and other times just to enjoy their mojitos. They are, by far, the best in Cuenca! The service is always prompt and enthusiastic, and their food will never disappoint you. Give it a try - you will come out smiling!

Never had Cuban food, so it all tasted wonderful to us. Large menu to choose from. We sat outside under a big umbrella. We would certainly go again to try different dishes! Service was friendly, and prompt, but we never felt rushed.

This is not your typical Cuban restaurant but indeed a place where you can have real Spanish Cuban food and good service! Nicely presented (love the old pictures of Habana, Gloria Estefan and Ernest Hemingway to name a few). Seating both indoors and outdoors.

The owner, Lucia, is a charming Ecuadorian who discovered Cuban food in Miami’s Little Havana area, she liked what she tasted and, on her return to Cuenca, she hired a Cuban chef and decided to share some of her favorite dishes with the locals. Lucia was very attentive to her guests all evening.

We began our evening with an order of Mojitos, they were refreshing and the best I ever had (even better than the ones in Miami) followed by the "picadas" (appetizer) stuffed plantains with ropa vieja (beef), shrimp and chicken - these were very tasty and this appetizer was plenty for the four of us. For dinner we decided to go family style, we chose the Bandeja Habanera which is a platter of grilled beef, chicken, pork and chorizo served with Cuban rice (arroz congri), a rice and black bean mix, yucca con mojo and delicious fried sweet plantains. If you like desserts then the "flan" is the way to go, yum! You must visit Habana Vieja while in Cuenca!

I have been living in Cuenca for six months now and I have been to and reviewed several great restaurants. There are no chain stores here except for KFC and Pizza Hut and Burger King so the variety is pretty good. A few weeks ago a friend told me she had found a great place for real Cuban. Having lived in Central Florida for twenty years, I was missing places like Ybor City around the Tampa area. Well, look no further. If you like Congri rice, Yucca, and other traditional dishes, Habana Vieja has it. Just a block off Remigo Crespo on Davila, it is an Inside/Outside place with seating for around thirty or forty. They make what my wife and several others say is the best Mojitos south of the Equator.

One item most people know about is the “Cubano” sandwich ($5.25) and it is served with fries.

The house specials are priced for three or five people. Caribbean-style fish, called Bandeja Varadero, with shrimp, calamari and corvina, costs $25 for an order that serves three while the $40 version that serves five. The Bandeja Habanera is a platter of grilled beef, chicken, pork and chorizo, and is $23 for three and $38 for five. And then there’s the Bandeja Cien Fuegos, which is platter of Ropa Vieja, which is beef slow cooked with onions, tomatoes, peppers and then shredded: $19 for three and $33 for five. All three specials are served with Cuban rice (arroz congri), a rice and black bean mix, yucca and delicious fried plantains as are the individual dishes.

The service is quick and friendly and the kitchen is hardly bigger than a closet so it is a wonder how the Chef performs his miracles in there. The bar is, out of necessity, located outdoors.

They are open for lunch and dinner except Monday and Tuesday.

This is not only the best Cuban restaurant is Cuenca, it is in my top three, all tied for first. Well maybe this one wins because of the price. Two people, drinks, dinner and a dessert split between us for $25, with enough to take home for a snack, hard to beat.

I love this place!!!
