I so enjoyed staying here. Our room was on the river side, so we had that wonderful sound of water over rocks all the time. Super relaxing.

The staff is wonderful, but professional. The restaurant is very nice and the seafood great. If possible, have Angel as your waiter.

The hotel itself is full on art and history. The art behind the front desk will take your breath away.

To be honest, this hotel, and Cuenca too, were the best parts of the whole trip.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the riverside and on the ground floor. This hotel has no elevator.

The hotel is well located, in the centre of Cuenca and on the Street famous for the night life (calle larga). The view on the river is special and the rooms are big and comfortable. The hotel is in colonial style, clean and the staff is friendly. The only aspect that has to be improved is the breakfast, it is always the same and if you spend several days there you fed up with eating the same food.

I spent one night in this old traditional hotel - location is great and the atmosphere was very pleasant. There is no lift but the staff helped me out with my luggage. The problem is that most rooms are internal, ie windows are on an internal court which is the main lobby and there were people chatting and screaming ALL night. i did try to complain but no improvement.

I stayed at the Hotel Crespo this week for work. It's a nice, quirky hotel, and was very clean. The manager and many of the front desk people were very nice. The hotel is close to the Rio Tomebamba and la Universidad de Cuenca, as well as to the town square, so we had no issues walking places.

Some tips: Pay cash. It's almost half the price of paying with a credit card, because you don't have to pay the service fees. If you don't like the loud noises of the bars across the street (and they are loud starting at 8 am and go until 11), ask not to have a room ending in 01, 02, 03, or 04. Those are on the front of the hotel.

Laundry service is moderately inexpensive, and fast - I got clothes back the same day and they ironed everything, including my t-shirts.

There's no elevator, so be ready to get help if you have heavy luggage. There's no air conditioning either, which didn't bother me, but you might try for a room with a window. I had a balcony with a door that I left open at night, which would have been great if I hadn't hear the bars all night.

They do have hair dryers in the rooms, and safe boxes downstairs - just ask for a key to one. I had no problems as a female walking around Cuenca and felt safe here.

Beautiful marble foyer with ceramic artwork. The staff was friendly and accomidating. Both our room and the restaurant had a wonderful view of the river, and our beds were really comfortable. It was a convenient walk to restaurants and shopping.
