“Nice Hostal in Cuenca”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

Basic and nice.... Just a few blocks away from the Cathedral and location is good as you are still in Central Historic/Colonial Cuenca. I stayed in room 3 all the way in the back which are the best rooms as they are less noisy. Breakfast is basic and good for the 40 $ we paid. No TVs or phones in the room, which you don't need anyway as you spend all day walking around this beautiful city.

We stayed here 3 nights and in 3 different rooms. My Mom had the tiny single room by the outside stairs (7a). The bed was comfortable and the blankets kept her nice and warm. This room did not have its own bathroom. My Daughter and I stayed in 7b with a double bed right next to the bathroom. It was very nice. Next, my daughter and I stayed in room 11 it was right near the front desk. It had 3 beds and its own bathroom. There is some noise from that room because its close to where people are coming in and out. The Hostel has wooden floors and it does creek quite a bit, especially around the front door. Our last night was in room 5 out by the garden. It was a double bed with its own bathroom. It was nice to have a bathroom in the room. This was a very quiet place to stay with plenty of areas to sit and read. They were very helpful and accommodating and it was a great deal. It was great that my Mom could have her own room without breaking the bank. The location was great too. I would definitely go back there again.

This charming hostel is in a colonial house with lots of character, centrally located in old town. The rooms are arranged around social spaces, an indoor atrium, and an outdoor garden. Tastefully decorated and full of interesting art and antiques. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Breakfast is included. Enjoy the tranquility and catch up on some reading there are no distracting televisions.

If you're looking for a room that you'll want to lounge around in then this is not the place for you. Our room was small with just enough room to walk around the double bed.

On the upside, the room and the bathroom were spotless and that's what counts the most when you're in a city to sight-see.

Staff was very helpful in telling us how to catch a bus or taxi. Breakfast was simple but ample. Location was great for hitting all the sights.

I would recommend this as a clean, safe place to stay while in Cuenca.

Room Tip: I'd agree with other reviews. Get a room in the garden area.

Took refuge here for one night after bailing out of a disastrous three day tour (another story). Rooms arranged around two courtyards, one inside and one well kept garden. Free water and basic breakfast but no guest kitchen. Very good location for walking old town Cuenca. Emergency pizza just across the street!

The staff were very helpful. The hostel had a nice large courtyard when you walk in and a garden in the back. The hostel is only a short walk from the main square. The room we stayed in was very large and although we shared a bathroom we never had to wait for it. The beds were very comfortable and we stayed warm. The hostel serves breakfast which is included and you can help yourself to tea at any time.

The staff was super nice here. Very helpful in getting us a taxi whenever we needed or recommending a good place to eat or see.

Our room was a triple that was right by the reception. It had a private bathroom and the hot water worked (Yay!) and it was clean. I felt very safe here, two front doors with locks and then a big lock on our room.

Unfortunately there were creaky wood floors and you could hear everyone pass by your room with all of their luggage at any time of the day or night. Even people just walking by sounded like an elephant parade. I'd imagine the rooms by the garden would be fine. So it made sleep slightly elusive.

Our room was pretty dark too, only one light bulb on the ceiling and one in the bathroom. There were windows that opened up onto the reception area, but that felt a little weird because anyone could just see into your room.

Needless to say, we didn't hang out in the room much, which was just as well and made us want to do more activities in town. We never stuck around for the breakfast since there are so many neat restaurants in Cuenca, so I have no idea what it was like, but it was included in the price.

Room Tip: Try to get a room near the garden if possible. Avoid the reception area.
