Went to this restaurant to buy some gluten free bread and the owner said that she stopped making GF food because of low demand.

Also, on our google map for this restaurant, the location was wrong. The restaurant is about two blocks from the cathedral and main square on Calle Hermano Miguel. Our google map showed it about 15 blocks away from it's actual location. So check your map and be sure it is near the main square.

We did not eat there but I have to rate them for this review so I gave them a good review based on other people's thoughts.

Best bread I've had for months! Huge range of wheat free options too, which was wonderful for difficult people like me! The little fruit and rye buns are awesome. And value is great 20cents for small rolls. They also do good coffee.

Maria has fresh baked bread and pastries, along with gluten free options! She has also start serving lunch specials. Her dark banana cinnamon bread is wonderful and a good option for those that don't have such a sweet tooth. If you do though, Maria offers great fruit and cheese danishes that rival any pastry in Cuneca. Don't leave without grabbing a few coconut and chocolate cookies!

We have not eaten in the cafe, but the pastry is as close to what you will find in good US bakeries, and is a world apart from the typical Cuencana styles. Check store hours to avoid disappointment.

The five star rating is due to Maria's baked goods. They are absolutely the best in Cuenca, in our opinion. We had regular breakfast which was really good - but overshadowed by the fabulous variety of bear claws, breads, muffins, etc...
