We came here with the yellow city tour bus($5). The bus stays at this spot for only 20min. We decided to stay longer and got on the next bus. There is an observatory at the top of the hill and we decided to go up. There is $1 charge but the view was much better than the lower deck. The best thing we did was a swing($1.5) and free zip line. You can swing over Cuenca just for $1.5!!
They also offer mini canopy($4) but we were totally satisfied with the swing and we did not do it.
This was our highlight of Cuenca.. If you go to this place, do the swing!!

This is one of the most breathtaking views of Cuenca. You can see almost every section of the city. Each time you visit, the sky is different. Make sure you have your camera with you. Meander up the hill to the little shops or venture into the Turi Cathedral. Hike up to the top of the mountain. Tour the Vega ceramic shop just down the street. Take the $5 bus tour from Parque Calderon to see the entire city. For the more adventureous, take a cab to the Turi bus stop and hike up the hundreds of steps to the top of Turi.

Turi is a church (and more) way op on the south hill of Cuenca. One can travel by taxi, bus, special tour bus or...you can walk the 460+ steps up the hill! There on the hill is also the home and workshop of famous Ecuadorian ceramist, Vega, where you can view and purchase his beautiful art pieces. It is a vista of Cuenca like no other and well worth any effort to get up there and visit. Highly recommended!!

No trip to Cuenca is complete until one views the city of Cuenca and the surrounding
Andes from this vantage point. The red-tiled roofs justify Cuenca's title as "The red city."

During our first week in Cuenca, we took the double deck tour bus from Parque Calderon, paid the $5 for the picture, and enjoyed the view. Two weeks later, we simply walked up the few hundred steps and took our time. Either way, it is worth the trip, particularly on a clear day. In addition to the church, there a few tourist shops and some restaurants. There are few other locations in Cuenca that lend that amazing view of the City, with its distinct red roofed hue.
