“Exceptional service!!!”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

The room was very comfortable and nice location.
The service was exceptional. Rafael and staff are super cool people!
They made me feel like a part of the family. Casa San Rafael is a gem in Cuenca.

The town has many attractive small hotels.
Although I would like to try something different, I already booked a room at Casa San Rafaer for the next trip!

Casa San Rafael is a charming historic hotel in downtown Cuenca. The location is perfect, just a few blocks from the center of town. Breakfast was fabulous and the staff really go out of their way to make you feel at home. The rooms themselves are actually quite small and basic. The ones on the back have no windows. However, there is a lovely lounge area with comfy sofa's and complimentary tea and coffee, so you don't have to spend a lot of time in your room. Reception will also loan you a laptop if you want to check your emails.

Anita on the front desk deserves a special mention. She is amazing! We missed our flight connection to Guayaquil and Galapagos, but no problem, she quickly arranged a private car to take us to Guayaquil for an amazingly cheap fare. $40 for a 4 1/2 hour ride, delivered right to our hotel downtown. The trip takes you through the National Park so we felt it was actually a better option than flying.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back are quieter, no street noise, but the trade off is no windows.

The family and staff that run Casa San Rafael are all wonderful! From the moment you arrive you feel welcome and relaxed. The hotel and rooms are kept immaculately clean! The restored colonial house has a very unique feel with a cozy atmosphere. We had many questions about where to eat and sights to see - we were always given great suggestions and helped to make arrangements. The breakfasts were excellent - usually fruit with yogurt & granola, toast and jam, eggs, fresh squeezed juice, and coffee/tea. It was delicious and the perfect start to the day! I was very impressed and would love to come back and visit one day. Thank you for making our stay in Cuenca so memorable!

Entering this hotel felt like coming home. The entire staff including Rafael and his extended family could not have been more helpful and concerned about our comfort and welfare. Rafael delights in his role as host and takes great pride in the decor and ambiance. The included breakfast was great. We truly felt that we were among family and dear friends. The four beautiful daughters of the family all speak a number of languages including perfect English and were tolerant and helpful with our attempts to use our very limited Spanish. The location is ideal for a visit to Cuenca being only three blocks from Parque Calderon and the center of the historical district. Even the maids seemed to regard us as friends. In short, we could not have made a better choice of accommodation.

A 110-year-old colonial building restored by Rafael, the owner, .to a stunning hotel with Cuenca charm. HIs daughters and staff were so friendly and helpful that we felt like we were part of their family . We stayed there for 4 nights and each day was better then the one before. Our room was always made up and cleaned daily. The water pressure in the shower was amazing; we wish ours at home was that strong! Speaking very little Spanish, we were constantly asking for directions and suggestions, which were given to us with graciousness and smiles. This is customer service at its best not because they have to, but because they want their guests to be comfortable and taken care of. We felt like we were staying with the best of friends that we had known for years. Casa San Rafael should be on your bucket list!

This small hotel colonial quaint by the most delightful family. The daughters are beautiful girls who speak several languages english included. In the middle of a disastrous vacation, one sick Travel companion and unacceptable accommodation at another hotel they not only came to our rescue but throughout our stay continued to go out of their way for us. Not only having their family doctor see to,our friend, but made the appointment and followed up on lab results. And bringing our sick friend a beautiful flower arrangement. They are wonderful host sweet gentle people who made our vacation . We cannot thank them enough

Oh my.. what a wonderful and enchanting place Casa San Rafael is!
We had a warm welcome when we arrived and felt like we were part of the family. The daughters of the owner were amazing and I will consider them my friends forever! We had the suite way up on the top floor and it was quiet and cozy. If you don't want do walk stairs don't pick that room..
Breakfast was wonderful and we actually made the granola mixture many times once we arrived back home.
We connected with a few couples staying at the B & B which made our experience even richer. Love you guys.. you know who you are!
The casa is beautifully appointed and is a good value for the stay! I looked at other places and they did not look as nice and they were way more expensive.
The daughters helped with taxis, event planning and places to eat.. they never tired of all our questions ( Im sure they are asked the same thing over and over again) and they made us fell as if we were the only ones that mattered.. loved that!
My personal opinion.. you would be a fool not to stay here.. loved it!

Room Tip: We stayed in the suite on the top floor and it was very quiet!
