“Nice hotel, but noisy and error prone.”
Reviewed October 27, 2012 via mobile

This is a nice hotel, opened in late 2011, in our case spoiled by a broken promise. It is an older place decorated in earth tones and lots of frescoes and paint finishes. Wood fittings and tasteful furniture all combine to create an instantly appealing environment. The rooms are spacious with very good bedding and well functioning amenities and bathroom. Wifi works really well and breakfasts are fulsome and tasty. But, and this is a big but, the place is spoiled by excessive noise from the street and in our case a really unforgivable booking error compounded by unresponsive efforts to resolve it. We knew about the noise from friends and requested room 208 which is quieter. We exchanged many emails confirming this prior to our arrival. When we got there we were put in room 204. We rightly complained and were told that 208 was full and if we wanted it we would have to change rooms after one night. We declined that 'offer' as it turned out that someone at the hotel had failed to enter the booking in their room register, despite confirming it with us by email several times. We then suggested a 10% discount as a way to resolve the issue. This was agreed by all. Then, upon checking out, we were told that to get the 10% we had to pay cash. Apparently this is their policy, ie pay cash and you get 10% off. We wanted to put it on card as cash was low. This was NEVER stipulated when we agreed to change rooms to help them out of the mess they had created. In the end we scraped up the cash but it really inconvenienced us. What is particularly disappointing is that despite repeated followups, the hotel has refused to adjust our bill to reflect the original agreement. All in all a very poor effort and one created solely by crappy administration and poor internal communication. So if you like noisy rooms and so so administration then by all means stay there, but there are better (quieter) options nearby.

We recently stayed at this hotel for 10 days. It was great. Friendly staff and great family run hotel. Most helpful in any query posted. The facilities were very comfortable and clean. Met many people at this local.... seems like this is a very popular location. Four blocks from the main square - Parque de Calderon and new Cathedral. We felt well taken care off and treated almost like family. They serve American breakfast every morning with eggs most any way you like it. It was a most enjoyable stay and sorry to have to return home.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the street are quieter, but some rooms do not have windows. Definitely bring ear-pl...

This is a fantastic small but charming hotel in an old courtyard style house. It is in the middle of the old town and as most rooms are only on the second floor (1st floor if you are British)there is traffic noise as has been pointed out. However it stops almost completely from 11pm to 6.30pm. We found that nights were 10pm to 6am anyway during our stay in Ecuador because of the daylight hours of 6 to 6 all year round, and so slept perfectly well.
Our room was 206 which was smaller than many we have experienced in Ecuador but still had plenty of room (3-4foot around the large double bed). Outside the room was the old style gallery around the central courtyard, with a beautiful old wooden floor and furniture with very comfortable chairs and a wood fire when it was chilly. So the room size didn't matter.
This is a perfect hotel and location for anyone who prefers not to stay in a modern style hotel. As has been said the staff were welcoming and helpful, always had a smile and put up with my very limited Spanish.
On a general note, you can walk almost anywhere in the old town from here, but taxis were cheap and easy to find from the door step.
Wi Fi was perfect.
The breakfasts were a delight fruit salad, eggs and freshly made smoothie style drinks-different each day.
I will Certainly stay here if I return to Cuenca.

Charming hotel with wonderful colonial architecture. Rooms and bathrooms are nice and comfortable, the staff is very nice and make you feel at home. Breakfast is complete and very good. The location is perfect for walking, just two or three blocks away from the Cathedral and other tourist attractions located downtown. The only thing that may ruin your stay is that on weekends there is a lot of street noise at night.

Beautiful charming place to stay. The staff are so pleasant and cannot do enough for you. It is so clean that everything shines. Breakfast is good and starts the day off nicely. The room is small by some standards but good bed and wonderful modern bathroom. The location is perfect for walking.

I enjoyed my stay very much. The service was very friendly and efficient. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was modern and immaculate. The room was small but perfectly adequate. I have to agree there was a lot of street noise especially on weekends so it you are extremely sensitive bring earplugs. The decor throughout was lovely and overall I thought it was a great value and would definitely return.

What a shame this lovely old hotel is located at the intersection of two extremely busy streets. Our room overlooked these streets & we got no sleep at all. We were relocated to a different room which was quieter but was located inside the interior lounge area and was tiny with no windows!
