The hotel reception was very grand, unfortunately the room did not match the entrance, the furniture was grubby and well worn and while the walls where hand painted the same colour would look more professional. The breakfast was good but I would not describe the view from the rooftop terrace as fit for a queen.
If you require a car pick up from Guayaquil to Cuenca book it at the airport as the hotel will charge 50% more, it should be 100 usd for four with luggage.

We stayed for five nights in Jan 19. The hotel is old and has atmosphere, with heavy dark furniture and antiques. Our first room (we were moved after the first two nights because they needed to do work in our room), was very large and had a separate twin-bedded room through the double room. However, the room was so dark as the tiny windows had stained glass in them. It also faced the front of the hotel, which was noisy. We were moved to a better room - not as big, but brighter and we liked it more. The beds were ok, but both bathrooms were old fashioned and the showers were not great. Breakfast was disappointing - exactly the same plate of papaya and pineapple, exactly the same bread and croissant and eggs every morning. We did suggest to the owner that varying the food would be good as it got pretty boring. In its favour, the hotel is very central, close to the main square and has good security. Particular praise must go to Alexis, on the front desk, who corresponded with us before we arrived and who could not have been more helpful in planning our trip and while we were there. He speaks very good English and is a huge asset to the hotel. Basically, the hotel is fine, but it could do with some major renovation.

Upon entering the cavernous courtyard/patio area I immediately felt as if I had stepped back in time 100+ years ago. This is an old building (three levels) that surround a charming interior courtyard. The entire place has been meticulously renovated and has kept virtually all of the proper period elements. I had a sizable second floor room with a balcony. My bed was very comfortable and had quality linens/bedding. There was ample storage space and a ‘hidden’ refrigerator was a nice amenity. The bathroom was ultra modern and featured a hydro-massage shower which was a delight with hot water and excellent water pressure. Buffet breakfast was offered in a pleasant covered rooftop area. Both hot and cold selections are available as well as made-to-order options. Fresh fruit and fruit juices were a treat. The staff treated me like an honored guest, especially Alvaro and Henry. They were always friendly, attentive and exceedingly professional. I stayed for a week and loved it so much I’m returning in the coming days.

It was a weird place. I normally love old buildings, but this one was converted to a Hotel and things were not done properly. Like our room was obviously built inside what was probably a bigger room that they split in half to create 2 bedrooms. So the wall was paper thin and the finishing was poorly done (big gap below the door among other things). Water pressure was sometimes very weak when other guess was showering. It's like there is a single normal size pipe coming in and it now shares with many rooms, so sometimes it was down to a trickle. We ran out of hot water a few time, but it was always quickly fixed.
Breakfast was ok. Service was poor. Room size was good. There was a strange smell in the room probably from all that old wood.

Stayed here 2 nights in mid-January. Beautiful character hotel, four blocks to main plaza Park Calderon and Cathedral. Incredible inner courtyard and restaurant...did I say COURTYARD! Friendly English speaking front-staff. No elevator or air-conditioning. Clean room and bathroom, view out to busy street, creaky wooden floors, comfy bed. Old building so walls not insulated for sound. Good breakfast buffet on the top floor, with an enclosed view of the surrounding hills. Hotel has a laundry service available outside the building, on the corner, which is much cheaper (pay by the kg.) rather than in the room laundry service. All in all good value in it’s class of hotel.
