We recently enjoyed four tours with Efrain on our recent trip to Ecuador. We have been on tours in other parts of the world and have never had the most complete and personable experience we encountered with Efrain and Mio tours. The experience of a private guide with exceptional knowledge and add the personal touches of great local cuisine made this not only a tour but developed into a friendship. We will be recommending Mio Tours to all we encounter. Due to this experience we have decided to retire in Cuenca. My retirement has been announced, the house is on the market, and preparations are moving forward. Again thanks to Mio tours, and especially Efrain, and we'll be seeing you all very soon.

What is the difference between a nice trip through Ecuador and one for the ages? One choice: Mio tours and Efrain. Our guide, Efrain took us to places that we would never even have known were there and treated us like family. Everywhere we went, we were greeted like old friends and treated like royalty. This would never have happened had we gone on our own. His knowledge and expertise on all things Ecuador allowed us to relax and enjoy our trip. I cannot express enough how pleasant our experience was, thanks to Efrain and Mio tours!

We booked with Mio tours months ago. The communication with Jazmine at the office was always timely.
Efrain our guide and driver picked us up on time the first day and took us on great tours of Inca Ruins going where only a four wheel jeep could go. We were alone there at it was fantastic. We saw the salt mines and everything that was promised. He also took us on detailed tour of Cuenca showing us where the expats live and where we could find out better deals for housing and where to live. We had great lunches and overall a great experience. The cost at $12 per hour was such a great deal. We learned so much about the Ecuadorian culture, political landscape and found a great source for local knowledge. I highly recommend Mio tours and not just Efrain. They do have other qualified and superior guides. His connections over the town are great. Email with questions. We will be using them when we come back.

We used Mio Tours for three days while in Cuenca. The experiences were good for us, but someone else may have been disappointed. We had a very good guide for two days. He spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable. The first day was an orientation tour of Cuenca and the itinerary was pretty much fixed. We would have liked to have spent more time in the old town particularly looking in on the old churches but we wound up doing this on our own later. The second day was not on Mio's regular list but they said that they could accommodate us. We drove to El Chorro waterfalls (beautiful) and drove into the Yunquilla Valley. We wanted to hike in the Jubones Desert but our guide was not familiar with its location. The guide was not the problem here since he had not been told by the office that this was to be a part of the day. Again, this was a special request that just didn't work out because the office didn't covey the information to the guide. The third day we were escorted by a delightful gentleman who spoke passable but not fluent English. His regular job is driving a cab in Cuenca. This day was to be spent hiking in El Cajas National Park. Our driver did not know what the "two Americans" wanted to do on that day until we told him. He didn't have a jacket for the cool weather in El Cajas. During the first short hike, our driver became confused about the correct path back to the trail head, but we were not far enough removed that this was a big deal. After registering at the visitors center we developed a plan for the rest of the day. Our driver didn't join us on these treks but they were pretty straight-forward and we didn't need a guide. As a driver and interpreter he was great, but had we planned on a tedious hike deep into the park, this could have been a very bad day since he was not a guide. On another day we made a extensive hike with another company which provided a professional guide and naturalist. That was the best day of our visit to Cuenca. I must say that the guide and separate driver for that day was a lot more expensive than the $12 per hour charged by Mio Tours but the results were wonderful. I don't regret using Mio Tours but it is definitely a case of getting just what you pay for. We didn't encounter the famous Efrain while in Cuenca.

MIO TOURS is the need to respond to this negative comment.
Firstly our company is very professional and at no time promise things we can not accomplish this is typical of people applying for our professional services and when we got to places drastically change his mind. Our guide Efrain Was a Tour to the Amazon but our company not only is Efrain, we have professional people who every day gives the best of every tourist to go forward to your visit to Ecuador. All companies in Cuenca we are professionals and we do our best every day with professionalism and responsibility, what a shame that at this time these people have not been to his liking our company that commits us to improve every day and where we appreciate this comment pledge to work hard to move forward and better serve our customers.

We came to Cuenca for a week's vacation and we were referred to MIO Tours to show us the sights in Cuenca. We met Efrain- our tour guide- and he was very friendly, funny and very knowledgable of the Cuenca area. He also took us to 2 great restaurants for lunch and the food was delicious. The price for such a personal tour was more than reasonable-We would highly recommend MIO tours to future guests. Robin & Judy
