We scheduled tours on two successive days with Efrain. On our first day we visited Inca ruins. Efrain guided us to an area not generally visited by tourists...it was wonderful with views that went on for miles. When he learned we were checking out Cuenca with an eye at relocating, he incorporated a tour of some wonderful residential areas for our consideration. That afternoon we stopped in Paute for lunch at Corvel. What an outstanding choice. We were seated in the garden and enjoyed a wonderful lunch to include Ecuadorian potato soup...not to be missed.
On day two we headed for Cajas National Park. A truly amazing place where he visited Tres Cruces. This would prove to be the begining of a wonderful day. We enjoyed a second wonderful lunch followed by a visit to Giron where we visited the museum where the truce was signed between Gran Columbia and Peru. The entire tour of the museum was lead by Efrain who is quite knowledgable and proud of Ecuador's history. Our next stop were the El Charro waterfalls. Then onto Chordeleg where my wife checked out the silver jewelry purchasing a pair of earrings. The day ended with a visit to a small eatery with no name and truly outstanding tamales.
During both days Efrain took several pictures which he emailed to us at the end of the day. In addition to his many talents, he is also pretty good behind the camera.
Efrain is more than a guide...he is warm, friendly and humorous host. We look forward to connecting with Efrain when we return to Cuenca. If you are visiting Cuenca and are considering a tour, contact Mio Tours and request Efrain. It will be one of the highlights of your trip.
