We scheduled tours on two successive days with Efrain. On our first day we visited Inca ruins. Efrain guided us to an area not generally visited by tourists...it was wonderful with views that went on for miles. When he learned we were checking out Cuenca with an eye at relocating, he incorporated a tour of some wonderful residential areas for our consideration. That afternoon we stopped in Paute for lunch at Corvel. What an outstanding choice. We were seated in the garden and enjoyed a wonderful lunch to include Ecuadorian potato soup...not to be missed.

On day two we headed for Cajas National Park. A truly amazing place where he visited Tres Cruces. This would prove to be the begining of a wonderful day. We enjoyed a second wonderful lunch followed by a visit to Giron where we visited the museum where the truce was signed between Gran Columbia and Peru. The entire tour of the museum was lead by Efrain who is quite knowledgable and proud of Ecuador's history. Our next stop were the El Charro waterfalls. Then onto Chordeleg where my wife checked out the silver jewelry purchasing a pair of earrings. The day ended with a visit to a small eatery with no name and truly outstanding tamales.

During both days Efrain took several pictures which he emailed to us at the end of the day. In addition to his many talents, he is also pretty good behind the camera.

Efrain is more than a guide...he is warm, friendly and humorous host. We look forward to connecting with Efrain when we return to Cuenca. If you are visiting Cuenca and are considering a tour, contact Mio Tours and request Efrain. It will be one of the highlights of your trip.

We had a great one day tour of the Cuenca area. Efrain was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and just a lot of fun! We took the tour on the first day of our vacation, and it really helped us to know the area and made us feel comfortable and welcome in this beautiful city. We highly recommend Mio Tours, especially "Efrain". The tour was a great value and customized for our own experience. We wanted a part tourist tour and a part, we want to live here tour, it was great, Efrain even included a tour of a grocery store to introduce us to what living here would be like! When we go back, we look forward to taking some of the other tours provided by MIO Tours. What a wonderful personalized experience!!!

I am traveling as a single mother with my 4 children (6,8,12, 14). I was very nervous about booking with Mio Tours and Efrian, because I worried that the guide may not be great with kids.... How wrong I was! Efrian was fabulous- helped the 6 & 8 year olds carry their items, helped us all down hills, and, included conversations that kept them interested. He was very kind to them and joked with them. He kept up with the 2 little kids while the older children and I were still taking pictures. There is not enough good things I can say about Efrian and how 'at home' he made my kids feel. My daughters said that they felt safer with him than they had at any point in Ecuador. And, my son (8) is proud to call him his friend!

Four of us hired Efrain to tour Cuenca. We told him what we were most interested in and saw all those places and more. The pace was just right and Efrain always had an interesting story to tell. The long rides went quickly, with many stops at beautiful places. We really got to know Ecuador and its people. He took us to many places we could never have seen if we were without him.
We highly recommend Efrain and Mio Tours.

We spent 2 days with Efrain, mixing and matching our itineraries from MIO's standard day tours as well as from our own research, to select the attractions that seemed most appealing to us. At $15/hour for 4 people, this was a true bargain. Efrain, whose years in New York made him perfectly fluent in English, was extremey friendly, accommodating, thoughtful and knowledgeable. We went to the "Panama hat factory," had a chance to cook a dish with the chef at a delicious restaurant, saw Incan ruins, explored a very colorful local market (where personal experience suggests, however, that it's unwise to sample), climbed to a beautiful waterfall, visited a national park, among many other attractions. Highly recommended.
