My husband and I were brought to Corvel Restaruant by Efrain from Mio Tours around 1:00 pm. We ate in the beautiful, enchanting gardens, beginning with potato soup, and it was heavenly. We ordered different dinner items to try the many choices. Everything was delicious and served elegantly. Later Cheff Patricio Coronel joined us at the table for coffee and then, surprised us with a little cooking class. It was fun, it was a gorgeous setting, it was delightful food. Bon Appitite.

Friends introduced us to this lovely garden restaurant just the other day. We had no idea such a wonderful restaurant existed in the heart of Paute, right near its centro and park. The food is absolutely wonderful - I had the trout with sambo sauce (pumpkin sauce), and we shared the exquisite shrimp al gratin that made me say "oooh, baby!". The other meals were amazing, too - flaming steak, seafood casserole, and seafood soup. The atmosphere is absolutely lovely, capturing the colorful soul of Ecuador and the Andean people. The chefs and waiters are warm and welcoming as well. What a perfect way to spend a leisurely lunch (we've also heard that it's beautiful at night, too)! We plan to return as soon as next week to share our find with other friends.

Corvel is one of the best places we have eaten in Ecuador...the fact that it is in the small town that we call home makes it all the more special. Paute is a small community that has wonderfully friendly people and spectacular beauty. Corvel fits right in with both. The restaurant is beautifully furnished in fine wood and has a gorgeous garden courtyard area that provides lush greenery as you feast on delicious food. We eat there most every week at least once and Patricio has always been a most accommodating host. He is proud of his restaurant and his town and rightly so. He and his staff are always ready make your stay the most pleasant of experiences. My son and daughter-in-law recently celebrated their first anniversary and we casually mentioned that we would be coming to Corvel for dinner to celebrate. When we arrived, Patricio had a special table with swags of material hung over the table, candlelight and rose petals strewn across the table. It couldn't have been nicer or more appropriate for the occasion. Sundays there is also a brunch available that is a real treat. I guess I should talk about the food, especially since it is a restaurant....it can't be beat!! We have tried most everything on the menu and nothing has been a dissapointment! Our favorites are the Locros Pautena (a wonderful local potato soup with cheese and avocado), Camerones al Coco (coconut crusted shrimp that are huge!!) and Lomo Diablo (steak with cognac sauce brought flaming to your table). We are sooo lucky to have met Patricio and to have his wonderful restaurant in our beautiful town.
