“One of a kind experience for romance amid the beatiful nature of cajas park”
Reviewed February 6, 2013 via mobile

WOW this place is incredible! Located on the outskirts of cajas nat'l park, in a gorgeous mountain valley lies hosteria dos chorreras. It's hard to describe how cool this place is, as it is literally built into/around a cloud forest mountainside. Unbelievable architectural feat, the nature outside actually comes INSIDE. There are huge moss covered boulders with a multidude of life inside the hotel. Instead of destroying the hillside to build the hotel, they actually built the structure around the natural elements. There are giant glass windows everywhere to enjoy the views, which are incredible. A mountain stream actually flows into the lodge under a wall and continues thru the building. The lodge is rustic but very elegant and majestic. We started our day with a very reasonably priced guided horseback tour(horses were roped together with the guide walking in front with the lead horse's rope) to a old mining town. We toured though the town and then explored an actual gold mine. Then we returned to the lodge for lunch. The food and service were excellent. We had the trucha de la casa(fresh trout with mushrooms and shrimp sauce), which was perfect. They have a decent wine collection as well. The rooms are incredible as well. Ours had heated water pipes under the floor which warm the bed and floors, as well as a huge real wood fireplace along with a very clean and classy hot tub for two. Please do not come here expecting an American or European style hotel, as it is something totally different. The entire lodge is open air, and is largely the same temperaturel as outside. This is by design though, and the only way to bring the natural world this close to the guests. A romantic nature lovers paradise!!! Also, the road is far away and the noise was no factor at all.

Estimado,

Gracias nuevamente,

Saludos cordiales,

Hostería dos Chorreras

The setting is beautiful but the rest of the stay was so disappointing we left after one night. Firstly - there are fireplaces in many of the public areas - but none of these were lit and we were really cold and damp. It would have made a massive difference if there had been log fires alight. Secondly, our rather cramped rooms had very old gas fired heaters in them and windows which couldn't be opened! Very worrying! We actually slept with the door open a little! In fact - hardly slept! We were cold and damp and worried about being gassed or someone walking into our room if we did fall asleep. Additionally, the noise of the traffic going up and down the hill on a major road next to the hotel was really irritating! The sound of air brakes etc was very loud!
In the morning I went in search of a hot drink and the first staff finally appeared at about 7.30am. I asked for tea or coffee but was told I had to wait until breakfast which was from 8. We sat and waited and finally I could see that a coffee machine was making some coffee. I watched the staff make two cups and then take them to some builders who were had sat down at another table. Two more 'staff' cups were made before I went to the server and reminded her that we had been waiting for hours for some coffee!! We started our breakfast and asked for a second cup of coffee - the waitress came back to tell us that only one cup was included with the Bed and breakfast price so this would be extra. For goodness sake!!!!!
Finally a young man appeared who seemed to have some authority and I spoke to him about leaving. He did listen with apparent concern and agreed that we could leave early and even reduced our cost a little.
The dinner the night before had been reasonable but apart from that the trip up to this place was a real disaster! The worst of our 5 weeks in Ecuador!
This place has heaps of potential and just needs serious sorting out!! Such a shame!

T he place is breathtakingly beautiful with wonderful surroundings and exquisite views. The staff is friendly but service is a bit lacking. Most important point is that there was not hot water for showers in the early morning. The place was heated well but the boilers for hot water may not have been turned on. The food is well priced and fresh and delicious. There are no hair dryers available for guests

Room Tip: All the rooms are wonderfully located with spectacular rooms

We booked this from our hotel in Cuenca. The owner picked us up on time and 30 minutes later we were greeted by the ever helpful Pedro with our caña. Our guide (Kiki) was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Our day consisted of a trip to where indigenous miners lived and worked, a riverside walk, a delicious lunch, kayaking, horse riding and fishing. We were also show round the lovely accommodation. We had finished our activities a little early yet there was no problem in driving us back to our hotel at a time that suited us. All for £30 each. Dos Chorreras is on the outskirts of the Cajas National Park so you can combine a tour there with a visit to Dos Chorreras for lunch or dinner.

Situated in a very beautiful and charming mountain place nearby El Cajas national Park.
The wooden structure with great windows is pleasant and the dinner is very nice (you can eat excellent fresh trouts) but has serious problems due to an inadequate heating system, with even lack of hot water. The staff is very kind but a bit disorganized (they didn't have even a hair dryer).

I have never been to this god forsaken place yet I am writing a review.

They have a wonderful website with a reservation page. I have filled this in no less than 4 times.
No response.
I then filled in their contact form.
No reponse.
I then e-mailed them directly.
No response.
I then called them directly and had my daughter talk to them as she is fluent in Spanish and I am not.
They stated they had the rooms available for our dates and they would e-mail her the details fpr confiming the reservation.
This was 5 days ago and no response.

How a place with this kind of customer service can stay in business is beyond me.

Room Tip: go somewhere else
