I stayed at this hotel for a week, and you can't ask for better service. Everyone was so helpful, by the end of the week, I felt like I was friends with the entire staff. They were so helpful, Maria works the front desk, and when I asked her to translate for me over the phone to the cell phone store that is down the street, she actually left the hotel, and walked over to the store with me to help me discuss the details of the phone purchase... Javier took about 20 minutes with me at the front desk drawing on a map the areas of town to avoid due to danger... The hotel is in a great location with everything within walking distance. My room was exceptionally clean every day, even the housekeepers were very friendly.. I highly recommend staying at this hotel when you go to Cuenca. I had a fabulous week, thanks to the hospitality showed by all of them; Maria, Javier #1 and Javier #2, Mercedes, and Elaina. Thank you San Juan Hotel!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, I had a room on the bottom floor of the hotel, right next to the kitchen. I...

My boyfriend and I stayed here at the recommendation of another hotel that was fully booked. We had looked at rooms in a number of other hotels, and this place had by far the nicest rooms for the price. We had a clean room, with a large bed, and a jacuzzi tub. The back garden was lovely to sit, read, meditate. Breakfast was generous and tasty. The best part by far was the service. The front desk staff was fabulous, organizing anything we wanted. They made dinner reservations, massage reservations, helped us get a driver to take us to the national park and a number of other small arrangements that made everything so pleasant and east. We had a great time here.

Room Tip: Try to get a room over the back garden. They are more quiet. The inside rooms you may hear breakfast...

This is a fabulous hotel!! Found accidently while walking in Cuenca looking for a different hotel after a disappointing experience with another. The place is beautiful, the rooms are large, beautifully decorated with many amenities provided. The staff goes above and beyond with anything u require. Breakfast is very good and certainly substantial: eggs, meat, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice, bread etc. I loved this hotel. Run don´t walk to Hotel San Juan....Javier and the other gentelmen whose name I didn´t get are terrific and extremely helpful. This is the hotel to go to in Cuenca. I have another hotel in Quito, same price but lower standards, and I was told Cuenca is expensive compared to Quito, not exactly true. This is a great place to stay.

We stayed in this Hotel for two nights. location is excellent, a few blocks away from the cathedral and other downtown cuenca attractions. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and very organized. The rooms are clean, fresh and comfortable (flat screen tv, jacuzzi, warm comforters). Breakfast is buffet still with at least 3 juice selections, milk, yoghurt, cereal, granola, cheese & ham and a few warm options as well (bacon, potatoes, pancakes) - dinner (potato soup) and dessert (quimbolito) were quite good as well. If there is something extra needed just ask and the staff will do what they can to help out. Decoration is colonial (downtown restored colonial house) but it is well adored, simple, and very "flowerful". There is even an interior patio which is quite and nice to relax. when comparing to other hotels in cuenca and ecuador in general, this hotel offer excellent location and excellent quality for the price - much better than most "boutique" hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second or third floors is possible. The first floor rooms are prone to noise f...

Very clean, and quiet (as long as the printer in the reception isn't being used)
Large rooms, flatscreen tv's
Very nice bathrooms.

We stayed here for two nights on the way to Vilcabamba and for a night on the way home. The hotel is nice and well kept. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is excellent as well as the breakfast. I was impressed by the gorgeous rose arrangements in the lobby that change virtually every day.
If you are looking for a comfortable and clean hotel San Juant is the way to go.
