If you have been trying to communicate in Spanish and need a welcome break, get down to California Kitchens on Luis Cordero. It is on the second floor in a lovely hotel in the historic district. The staff are great and good food was had both for lunch and dinner. On the Friday night, there was a jazz group playing as we ate. What great fun. There couldn't be any better way to spend an evening. Not cheap as some of the websites say about food in Cuenca, but when you want a nice evening out, what do you expect?
