“Foodies! Here's a Gastronomic Experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2013

I always love going to Zazu. The Tiradito Parmesano (fresh tuna), Langostino Zazu (jumbo shrimp) and Pangora Salad (stone crab) are some of my favorites dishes. But I want to write about an experience I had at Zazu a few months ago with a group of friends, we were 8 in total. We reserved a private room next to the upstairs lounge. We were received by the Chef himself who then cooked our meal right in front of our eyes in a newly set up private kitchen. "We" made a delicious 4 course meal and drank wine to accompany each course. (visit their amazing wine cellar!) Yes, "we" meaning the whole experience was for our group to cook together and learn from the Chef himself some of the secrets of the trade. It was definitely an experience I would like to repeat. We also had our own private waiter. A must for all foodies travelling through Quito!

“Want something special?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

The ambiance is pleasant although it is very modern. The staff are polite and helpful. The food here is beautifully presented and the quality is excellent. We are here twice and it was the location that we chose for our last meal in Ecuador.

“A Joy of a Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

We decided to go to Zazu as it was a special occasion and our last evening in Quito. We enjoyed the ambiance in the restaurant and the service was attentive, if not always immediate.
We liked what we saw on the menu and had a job choosing. We had a range of dishes between us, including our first ceviche, and every dish was superbly prepared and presented. The portions were small, which suited us well, as we wanted to enjoy the tastes rather than to end up feeling very full.
The bill was sizable, but in line with what we expected.
So not a restaurant for every day perhaps, but lovely to be able to visit on a special occasion.
We would definitely go again if we go back to Quito.

“Fusion cuisine at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

Having had mostly mediocre food in Ecuador it was a privilege to come to this oasis. We had the 6 course degustation the first night. Excellent swordfish . My only criticism was the service was abut rushed and the second time we went we asked to wait between the main and dessert. The pork confit my wife had was delectable and I enjoyed my tuna . The suggested wine was corked and there was no problem retuning it even though we had both drunk a full glass .
Would come back again and even though expensive by Ecuadorian standards it is cheap compared to Sydney .

“Used to be a favorite and it went down hill this year”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

In the past when we've traveled to Quito, we have enjoyed taking friends with us to Zazu. In the past, food was excellent and amazingly cooked with fabulous flavors. This year was a terrible disappointment! The ahi tuna tartar was delicious. The tenderloin was lack luster and was not served with potato coquettes as indicated on the menu. Instead, they served it with risotto which is a terrible combination as both are terribly rich. Last year the tenderloin was perfectly seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare. This year the tenderloin was medium, grisly, and lacked seasoning. At the beginning of the meal, we let them know we needed to be out in 2 hrs to catch a flight. Service was extremely slow to the point we had to rush out in order to get our late night flight. Did they change chefs? What happened!?
