“Nice little hotel”
Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

We only stayed here for one night and arrived late at night. It was quiet, nice, and we had a really delicious breakfast. Fresh orange juice, huge selection of tea, eggs, yogurt, breads, etc. Can't give advice on location, etc. since we were just here over night.

The hotel is very well located in Quito old town, in a nice old colonial house, beautifully decorated.
The rooms are smallish but convenient and good value, with good breakfast.
I would consider the hotel an excellent cost/benefit relation. The only problem is how to reserve the hotel.
First I sent a e mail to the hotel, but it was never answered, then I made the reservation through the hotel home page.
To my surprise the home page of the hotel send you to a company called "International Vacations". Even if they say that this is "on line reservation" it is not. First I made the reservation, and was sent a instant confirmation. To my surprise the next day I got an e mail from International Vacation, saying that my reservation was confirmed, but only after I printed an document, sign it, scan it and send it back!!!!!!! What a "on line" service....After doing all this, I receive another e mail again from International Vacation asking me to send a scanned copy of my Credit Card, at this point I answered I would not do it, and called the hotel, asking them to confirm the reservation. When I arrived the hotel charged my the balance between what had already been charged by IV and the total value. For my surprise, next day I received another e mail from IV increasing the amount already charged. I talked to the hotel receptionist, who said he would solve it, but did nothing. The next day, I talked again, and had to have a talk with the hotel owner to have the money charged extra returned to me.
In resume, do stay in this hotel, it is very well located, and very good value, but never, ever use International Vacation for the reservation, neither to this hotel or any service, for that matter.

Room Tip: The rooms are small, but very clean and convenient.

Thank you for your report. We feel sorry about the reservation problem you encountered when using our booking online. However we must clarify that you reserved 2 times - once at booking online and once by booking directly via website contact. Some confusion was the result of the 2 bookings. We apologize for everything and also payed back a small accidental overcharge made by International Vacation - our booking online partner. Using our online booking button in our website is as save and convenient as using any other booking system we work with. The procedure to follow is well explained and clearly identified. Thanks again for staying in our hotel.

We recently stayed in this moderately-priced historic hotel for two nights before and one night following our trip to the Galapagos. We could not be more pleased. The location, a five-minute walk from the main plaza, is excellent. While caution is always advisable in Quito, we were comfortable in the area near the hotel. From the outside the hotel is very ordinary, but on the inside it has been beautifully restored and exquisitely furnished. The rooms are small but quiet, clean, and comfortable. The personnel were knowledgeable and helpful, especially when we needed advice on the surrounding area and transportation to and from the airport at very odd times (4AM; 11PM). Breakfasts were terrific and the one evening meal we had was excellent. We would gladly go back for a second visit!

This hotel is owned and managed by a charming couple of Ecuadorian and Swiss nationality. It is lavishly furnished and decorated in the Ecuadorian style and makes you feel like a guest in a wealthy home of the Spanish conquistadores. The personnel is friendly and helpful and attends to you if you have special wishes. Rooms and especially the cupboards are somewhat small, we stayed for 10 days and could not find sufficient space to stow away our belongings. We appreciated the hotel's location, all the interesting sites of the center are at walking distance. El Relicario del Carmen will be the right choice for our next trip to Quito and Ecuador.

A quaint hotel located a short walking distance from the main plazas and historic churches of Old Town Quito making it an ideal base to explore various parts of the city. A former historic house that has been transformed into a hotel, it still retains the feel of a home with a hotel staff that is very friendly and helpful with a great attention to detail. The room was nice and the common spaces are decorated with local artisan works. The top floor provides a little area with an overlook view over part of the city. The hotel’s restaurant served an excellent breakfast. An overall enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend.

We found this to be a charming and very comfortable hotel in a fantastic location right in the middle of the old town area. It is only a few minutes walk from the President's Palace and in the other direction, less than 10 minutes to the Basilico church. The staff were so helpful. We had to leave at 4 am on both occasions we stayed there and they were up checking our taxi was the right one etc. The hotel is a converted old house and has lovely wood work and still feels more like a home than a hotel. Very good WiFi. We would certainly stay there again and have no hesitation recommending it to others. We avoid the modern plastic hotels which are all the same and like ones that are more personal and have some history and are more representative of the local environment. Also important, there are a couple of ATM machines within two or three minutes walk.

We stayed here two times. The first time our room overlooked the lobby, which was a negative as we could hear everything in the lobby. For example, I could hear the phone ring every time. I would only stay here if you can get a room not overlooking the lobby as those rooms are too noisy. So I would rate the hotel 3 star the first time and 4 star for the second visit when we were away from the lobby.

The rooms have nice detail with pretty wood, etc, however they are quite small.

Th staff was very helpful, assisting us when our tour and flight arrangements changed and providing a breakfast for our 4am departure, and opening up early for a sit down breakfast at 6:15 for our second trip.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking lobby
