“A great short stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2013

This is a hostel located on Los Rios near Calle Caldas. This is a very small hostel with 9 rooms which are over three floors. There isn't an elevator so keep that in mind. The room I had was a single with exactly that a single that had a shared bathroom next door to my room. The rooms are no-frills yet forward, clean with a small dresser & mirror, a bedside table & light. There isn't any A/C or Heater as this is Quito. It covered what I needed at quite a reasonable price. The breakfast is offered at $2.00 USD. The rooftop has great views of the city especially the lights of the rolling hills at night. The hostel sits on a top street in the neighborhood so by foot a little uphill walking will be necessary. Old town is 1Km away so within walking distance. One might consider a cab at night in this neighborhood It's a family run hostel that has a pool table in the lobby, television with cold drinks for sale. The staff was quite friendly the Manager 'Xavier' was happy to assist me in confirming my booking of my flight to Colombia over the phone. They can assist in booking tours as well. I was sent to this hostel after the booking I made at the Colonial House which could take me just 5 nights during the week I was in Quito. Keep in mind that the lobby does close at 10PM (22:00hr) which means so does the rooftop terrace in which you're free to store any perishables in the refrigerator or cook a meal on the terrace.

Room Tip: Just remember there isn't an elevator so you may have to walk up three flights of stairs to your...

Thanks for your comment and I just want to clarify some points:
Our address is Los Rios N11-142 and Briceño and our hostel has two different buildings with more than 9 rooms. We are located in the Old Town, into a traditional neighborhood called San Blas, maybe 1 km is the distance between my hostel and the Tourist area.
Thanks again for your words.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Our room was big and comfortable with a nice ensuite. We loved the rooftop terrace with views of Quito. The only downside was the noise on our second night from other guests, not something the hostel can really help.

We stayed here for over a week, after we fled from The Secret Garden around the corner.
The rooms are spacious and clean. You can use the kitchen on the roof terrace that looks out over the city. Staff is nice, they helped us out a lot when we were moving on.

The hostel is located in a good location. Close to main streets, attractions and transportation and still manages to be relatively quiet, for a city. The hostel has a lovely rooftop terrace, where the kitchen is located and breakfast is served while you enjoy great views of the basilica and the buildings around it. The staff is friendly and almost all of them speak English well. My room and bathroom was clean and lockers were provided (bring your own lock) in the reception area. The room was pretty chilly at night (I was freezing at night), so warmer blankets for that time of year would be helpful, as well as constant hot water. The last day I was there had no hot water. They need a better system for the reception area because it's located in one of the two buildings, and if you are in a room in the non-reception building, you either have to walk all the way up to the terrace to cross over or walk outside and ring the bell for the other building. The wifi only works in the reception area and the rooftop terrace and the lockers are in the reception area. Also, I didn't see a sign anywhere, but they closed the reception area randomly Sunday afternoon for supposedly 2.5 hours but it turned into almost 4 hours. And I didn't think $2 for breakfast is a good deal once I realized what you can get for $2 elsewhere, but it is convenient. Also, I think it is ridculous to require guests to provide their own matches to light the stove in the kitchen. Those should be provided if your stove can't create a flame without one. It's a great family owned business, and if they could get this fews things ironed out, it would make it that much better.

Dear,
Unfortunatly, this is an exactly comment wrote on hostelbookers.com by a person which has other name and now I do not know if this comment could be taken into account. Anyway, this is what I answered to the comment in the other website:
"Thanks for you rating and comment. Why did you wait until you made the check-out to say what you needed? I am very sorry but I can not understand. You stayed in my place for 5 nights and in all these 5 days you did not mention that you needed an extra blanket. For USD 2 we offer more than just a breakfast, we offer WIFI, nice and clean place, amazing view of Quito and besides a home made breakfast Thank you so much for the rest of your comment and we will try to improve our services "

Unfortubaletly, Hostelbookers.com does not allow to write more than 500 characters so its almost imposible to make a good explaination to all our customers about the different situations happened in our hostel.

Continuing with your comment, we do not offer 24 hours reception and there is a sign on the Information board what it is explained the opening hours of our reception where it says that we closed from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on weekends and hollidays. I am very sorry if you never saw this sign.

Regarding the matches, We put matches on the kitchen every day but how the access to this place is for every guest , some people take the matches and this people do not return them to their correct place. I am sorry but we can not control this situation. You know that the cost of a box of match is only USD 0.05 cents and there are a lot of grocery stores around our hostel SO it is easy to get one of them. I think, it is not a big deal make a comment of a box of matches, there are more important things about our hostel that you could be included in your comment. Sorry!!

Good value hostel, clean room. Nice terrace view and seating area with TV showing American tv shows. Also given a locker to keep valuables in. However cheeky 3 dollars charge to leave your rucksacks for the day after you have checked out.

Room Tip: Choose a room with inside windows (not on to the road)

Thank you very much for your comment.
Unfortunately, charging USD 3 after you do the check-out is the only way to continue serving in the best way and continue offering the use of our services. Please also remember that the luggage storage service is free until 2pm so the extra charge is after this time. Sorry!!

The only reason this was not excellent was because of the noise from the road during the night, due to the window not being sealed correctly.
Otherwise a fabulous place to stay. There was hot water, wifi and the owner is extremely friendly.
The breakfast was only $2 and included a bowl of fruit (variety of types), a ecuadorian cheese pastry and tea.

I would recommend staying here.

Stayed here for 4 nights after arriving in Quito from London, UK. We let them know we were arriving late and they opened up reception again to check us in.
The staff spoke good English and were courteous at all times.

The breakfast was only $2 dollars and was filling with fresh fruit, toasty, eggs and tea or coffee.

Our room was large with a private bathroom. This was cleaned daily and the water was always hot. It was a bit noisy outside - but we were jetlagged falling asleep at 7pm! Once the traffic died down after 9pm it was quiet.

Good WiFi in the reception area... Didn't make use of the kitchen on the roof terrace but at a quick glance it looked fine.

We will be back in Quito later this month and will stay here again!
