Owner description: The Quito Astronomical Observatory was founded in 1873. It is one of the oldest in Latin America. After 143 years, the investigation process still continues here. Since 2011, the Observatory opened its museum. Here you can visit 8 rooms and the central tower, with displays of instruments that have been used here. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 7-9 pm, Night Observations take place, for which you must book in advance. See you soon!

Guides are usually science students, they have a lot of interesting instruments and host sky observations. Their basement has a lot of nerdy stuff. I love it, but then again, if you're not a science lover it might not be the best use of your time. Cheap and well located, though!

This is a classical site from a different dimention!! it seems that most inhabitant from Quito don´t even know this building exists, nor do they know it was recently re-opened to the public after a serious restauration process. This Building (looks like a mad scientist castle from a theme park) constructed in 1873, is a replica of the Observatory in Bonn. It has the most amazing instruments for metereology, seismography, geophysics and astronomy. All these old german gadgets- museum artifacts- work as they did on day one!! amazing is the big Merz Telescope, ensambled in Munich in 1875!!! crisp clear images, the Quito Astronomical Observatory kindly shares with everyone in the web!
