“Great place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2014

I really love the Vieja Cuba....it is well situated - (walking distances to shops and restaurants) but most of all it is charming and pristine and super comfortable. The rooms are lovely amd the views are great. The service is excellent and the staff are very helpful - they even got me a Doctor at 4 am! Overall, I would highly recommend this as a great place to stay when visiting Quito.

The hotel is located in New Town, quite a distance from the Old Town but within easy stroll to the lively La Mariscal area around Juan de Velasco street. Judging by the many intimidating-looking fences, though, this is probably not the safest area particularly at night so avoid coming back on your own.

Vieja Cuba was built in the style of Spanish hacienda and is rather quaint. Rooms, however, appear to have paper thin walls (and it can get rather noisy even late at night) and glass doors that lit up the room with the light from corridor's energy-saving lamps any time somebody walks past. So perhaps not for light-sleepers.

There is no lift to the second floor and stairs are quite steep.

Free internet access is provided.

Bathrooms are not that functional with little storage space and soap provided in little bottles, rather inconvenient to use.

Breakfast was varied and quite sufficient. Staff friendly though could do with being a little bit more efficient considering the status of the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 2 as it seems to be in the busiest part of the hotel

Very nice hotel, very nice design and atmosphere. The room was nicely decorated, comfortable and very clean. Good breakfast good location - quite place in a central touristic area with many restaurants and coffee shops. Wonderful and very helpful team. Highly recommended

Vieja Cuba has a good vibe and feels a bit posher than it is because of the lovely exterior. The rooms are not ornate, but have most of the things you'd want in a medium budget hotel. We were particularly happy with the layout of our twin room which had a separate sleeping area up one level. We've had our first taste of the hot water problems that can be an issue in these parts, but that was really the only irksome thing about Vieja Cuba.

This is a spotlessly clean, friendly and charming hotel. The location is excellent for getting to the old town as well as being close to many restaurants and bars. The staff are really kind and helpful, giving good information, maps and making phone calls as well.

The rooms are beautifully decorated and have the comfiest beds, pipping hot water in the showers and lots of TV channels in English.

Breakfast is included and is delicious.

I would highly recommend this hotel and if I ever return to Quito then I would definitely stay here.

I stayed here 3 different times on my stay in Ecuador. The hotel is lovely, great character and nice to stay somewhere like this instead of a large hotel.
The staff at reception were nice and friendly, the rooms were good.
The only thing i suggest would be to bring ear plugs, the walls are thin and with lots of people there, some getting up early this might disturb you.
The location is good, only a 3 minute walk to a large supermarket, 15 minute walk away from the main bars and restaurants.
The breakfast was good, the usual Ecuadorian breakfast, fruit, scrambled eggs, sweet yoghurt and museli.

Room Tip: Street side was noisier.

Great hotel. We have stayed here on numerous different occasions with our two small kids. The staff are wonderful, incredibly accommodating. The rooms are perfect. We will always stay here when we come to Quito. Just a short walk to great restaurants, market and shops. Breakfast is great as well.
