I only stayed in this hotel for one night but it was comfortable and cozy and the breakfast was great! It felt like a bed and breakfast and the staff was very welcoming. I wouldn't recommend walking around late at night, but other then that the location was fine.

In a good location just north of the Mariscal area (but outside of the gaudy main tourist drag), this small Cuba-themed hotel is full of character. Reading other reviews, I think we were lucky with our rooms but had a good experience both times, bagging the suite in the round tower on the last visit (definitely worth booking if you can - spiral stone staircase, balcony, extra beds). The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, even in the wee hours of the morning. Great breakfasts, too.

Room Tip: Ask for the tower suite!

We stayed at this hotel twice, one time I would rate it 5 stars (due to having an excellent room--#23) and the second time I would rate it 3 stars (due to having an inferior room--#4). The hotel itself is in a great location in La Marisal neighborhood, with plenty of shops, restaurants and a large food store all withing walking distance. They will do your laundry for you at a reasonable price (under $10 for a week's worth of clothes). If they are not available for laundry (the laundry person was not there on Monday when we arrived the second time), there is a local laundry that is about a block away and even cheaper (under $5).

The breakfast is excellent, a full hot breakfast with several choices, lots of fruit, granola, eggs, great coffee, juices, etc. The breakfast alone makes it a worthwhile stay.

Tip: do not get any of the rooms directly above the reception area (like #4, where we stayed the second time). The room is much smaller than #23 and it has several things going against it--the noise from reception throughout the night could clearly be heard in our room (poor soundproofing of the room); there are two frosted windows, one on the door and one on the wall, so whenever someone entered the hallway and the automatic light switched on, it shone into the room as well; the floor above is wood, so all footsteps are loud and clear (as are the bed springs above); and the room itself is small.

However, room #23, which we had the first time we stayed, was excellent. It was the top floor and the room itself was actually two floors. Yes, you have to climb some stairs, but worth it for the peace, quiet and privacy. Ask for #23 in advance or at least ask for a room on the top floor so that you don't have the noise issues of the lower floors.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room on the top floor; we had it once and it was wonderful, our second stay we had a...

We spent several days at the hotel in 3 separate periods, so I had 3 different rooms. All mine were twin rooms, one had a balcony and was quite spacious, but all had very small bathrooms. Some rooms could sleep 6, others were accessed from steps outside the main hotel. Beds were very comfy, but nearby bars could be noisy into the small hours. Very friendly staff, breakfasts were always the same but plentiful. Wi-Fi transmitters in every room.

This is a lovely old home transformed into a hotel which is great since most old homes in Quito have been torn down and re-built on.
Our room was 23 which I requested because reviews here had said it was quiet.... and that it was. I didn't need my ear plugs for the two nights I stayed here. It was split level, which was very useful and clean and comfy.
The bathroom was a tad on the small side, which is fine for us, although the shower space could have been a tad larger for our liking, but if that is the only thing we can complain about....
There was complimentary bottles of water in our room.
The hotel also did our laundry for us at an extremely reasonable price we thought and it was all folded up neat and tidy on its return.
They even sorted breakfast for us at 5.15am.
The staff couldn't be more helpful.

Room Tip: Room 21 is very quiet even if the shower is slightly small - but that's a small price to pay for...

This spot is one of my favorite hotels in Quito, hands down. I have stayed at a number of the luxury properties in the city, Nu Hotel, Swiss, Hilton Colon and I prefer to stay here. Great location, extremely friendly, accommodating staff, affordable and the price includes breakfast.

The rooms are definitely on the smallish side and the construction, everything is finished in dark wood, lends itself to being creaky. If you're not a sound sleeper this might not be the place for you. One can definitely hear other people when they go in or out.

Room Tip: I like the rooms on the second floor, they are a little less noisy.
