“Full of character, totally charming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2010

We are so glad that we chose to stay in this charming hotel. It suited our needs extremely well. I felt the location was more atmospheric than the new town and as we ate all our meals at the hotel because they were so delicious, we didn't need to venture out at night. Our room, a suite I believe, was perfect. It was simply but tastefully furnished with beautiful wooden floors and was very clean. Practically, it worked very well because it was situated over two levels so this meant our teenage son was given some privacy and we all delighted in the space - which included a little balcony overlooking the courtyard! The staff were courteous and helpful, the waiters were very friendly. Within the hotel, there are areas to relax including the back courtyard, the small library where coffee is served and a larger area with 'comfy' chairs under the glass roof area, all of which are beautifully decorated and inviting. We also enjoyed the entertainment, particularly the wonderful guitar music played as we tucked into our evening meal.

Not as `boutique as I had imagined from previous postings, but a fine hotel right in the centre of the historic area. The staff are all dressed in traditional costumes and always pleased to help. We stayed 2 nights and then returned for a further night. The first room was on the 1st floor overlooking the atrium....a little bit of noise from staff clearing evening meals and preparing for breakfast but nothing too annoying. On the return trip we were in a corner room on 1st floor but over the front entrance (no views in either room). this was fairly noisy at first and we had music blaring out until about 11pm...but we were so tired and not 100% that we soon fell asleep. This 2nd room had a spiral staircase to a first floor bedroom + bathroom. Not good for the elderly and the lounge area below is virtually u/s. The porters weren't too keen on lumping heavy cases up this staircase but obliged. Front reception very helpful as were the porters. On the day we left we had quite a long wait before pick up and we found out later that we could have had the use of a courtesy room to freshen up (need to ask). The restaurant was pretty good but although authentic, we found the nightly Andean live music a little intrusive. We got a welcome cocktail on arrival and there is a bar/TV lounge downstairs. On the 1st floor there is a reading room with supply of free tea or nescafe. They have a stand-a-lone computer with free access but internet connection is unpredictable. We used internet cafe's. There is one over the road and another just off teh main Independence square (turn left out of the hotel and you are there within 5mins). There are also some nice caf'es coffee shops in a courtyard just off the main square...we missed it first time around. The hotel were warning people about not carrying valuables but although we didn't go out at night we felt safe during the day. There are plenty of police around and even one of the locals warned off a `tramp' who was staring to approach us. Lots of friendly people.

We recently stayed at Patio Andaluz in Quito for 2 days. It was an excellent location for the colonial town, and the rooms/bathrooms were clean. We were within walking distance for colonial sites. However, I can;t say such positive things for the staff or the room we were in. It is a quaint hotel, but our room was on the 2nd floor on the courtyard. So, it was LOUD-starting at 4 am! Not something we wanted to deal with-esp. on our vacation. We decided to stay in and have drinks and dinner att he hotel. We got a tapas dinner-and food was amazing. Fresh and flavorful. We were able to eat at the bar (cave). The staff there was really nice-and professional. However, the front desk staff needed some help in that dept.

Hotel Patio Andaluz is a decent hotel. It's located conveniently for exploring Old Town. The room we had was a bit gloomy, but we didn't mind because we were only going to be there two days and we spent most of that time outside. The layout of our room was loft style with a sitting area downstairs. The bed area and bathroom were located up spiral staircase.

Our room had windows facing outside. The traffic can be a bit noisy early in the morning, so bring ear plugs.

The hotel food was 'okay'. Nothing too special. A grocery store is located right next door, so it's easy to shop for snacks.

The front desk staff were very helpful and spoke English. Check in was a breeze even with us arriving at 11pm at night. They also helped us book a tour of Old Town and a tram ride up into the Andes to get a city view.

Old Town itself and the surrounding area can be a bit intimidating at night without a guide. No one lives in Old Town so once the businesses close for the evening it looks like a unsafe ghost town. Just make sure you have a guide with you while walking around - especially for the night tours.

Only stay here if you are sure of getting a room with an external window. The rooms that face into the internal (covered) courtyard are dark, stuffy and sometimes hot beyond belief. Noisy too, either from the diners/entertainment or from the rattling bathroom fans.

We have just returned from a total of 8 nights in this lovely hotel in the centre of the old city. The hotel is quiet and is built around a central courtyard which is the dining area. Tea ,coffee plus the internet are available at no extra charge. The rooms are large and comfortably furnished. We had booked a standard room but were given superior ones on two of our return visits. The staff are polite and accommodating. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to those not wanting an exciting and noisey nightlife!
Mamma Clorinda's restaurant in the new part of Quito is well worth a visit for genuine Ecuadorian food

This is a good choice for those who want to stay in the old quarter of Quito. You’re paying for the location here – the rooms aren’t particularly high standard, but they’re ok. Some of the rooms only have internal windows though so if booking try to get an external window room. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was good. If you want to stay in a mid range hotel in the old quarter this is a good option.
