Hotel Patio Andaluz
Ranked #10 of 112 Hotels in Quito
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 29, 2014

Bottom line up front: Highly recommend this hotel if staying in the old town.

First "thumb:" Service. The bilingual staff at this hotel was one of the best we have encountered in all of our travels in South and Central America. Virtually everyone, even the maids you pass in the hallway, gives you a sincere and friendly greeting, each and every time they see you. Several employees deserve special mention, though: Jimmy Martinez, one of the doormen, was extremely helpful in assisting us when we had to go to the local tourist policia station on the main plaza to report a theft (pickpocket). Jimmy is totally fluent in English and his skills were extremely valuable in translating our version of events and descriptions of the "perps" to the desk sergeant. Another outstanding individual was "Paul," another one of the doormen who was exceptionally cordial, cheerful, and helpful. Last, we really enjoyed interacting with "Daisy," one of the waitresses, during breakfast. Her friendly, cheerful attitude was contagious. As other reviewers have commented, the breakfast buffet was not over the top, but it was decent enough, but at $14.50, a little on the high side when compared to restaurants outside of the hotel (although truth be told, there are not that many to choose from that cater to visitors).

Second "thumb": Location. Hotel Patio Andaluz is only 1.5 blocks from Plaza Grande (a.k.a. Independencia) in the Centro Historico. Quito does not have that many really interesting historical sites, IMHO, but the really worthwhile ones are within easy walking distance from here. Even La Ronda (BTW, most restaurants there are essentially shuttered until 16:00/4:00 PM) is not that long of a walk. As other contributors have observed, you can see all they key sights in an easy two-day, self-guided tour. If time is limited, recommend you see La Campania (church), Iglesia San Francisco (specifically Museo Fray Pedro Gocial), Monasterio El Carmen Alto (recently restored), and Casa del Alabado (pre-Columbian artifacts in a restored colonial home). If you are interested in high-quality artisan jewelry at reasonable prices, I would highly recommend trying Ari Gallery, near Hotel Casa Gangotena Hotel on Plaza De San Francisco.

Our room (#211) was spacious enough, with a two-level arrangement; the bed and TV (Spanish-only stations) are on the main floor, and you climb up a narrow, twisting stairway up to the loft where there is a sitting area and the bathroom. A little inconvenient, but you get used to it. Not all rooms are configured this way, so if stairs are an issue, ask for a room on one level. The bathroom is a little snug, but it works. Electronic safe in the room; iron and ironing board by request (only took five minutes to deliver). Two bottles of water replenished each day.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the street. Our room was on the second floor...

The hotel is a 45min ride from the airport. You can schedule a pick up through the hotel which costs between $35-$45 depending on the day. I paid $45 to hotel and $35 from the hotel to/from the airport. The hotel is in an excellent location for sightseeing. All the main attractions are within walking distance. But after 2 days you have seen everything you need to see there. You must take day trips as there is nothing much to do after 2 days. Save your $ on the guided tours for $40 r/t taxi fare you can go to the middle of the world city on your own. You do not need a guide to do the tour it's very straight forward and easily done solo. Same with the Telefonica cars to the top of the city. There are plenty of restaurants close by, but they are more local shops and they don't speak English. The Plaza next to the hotel has great resturants and food. Very clean hotel, rooms are average, bedding is a bit older and beds are hard but the bathroom and rooms are clean and comfortable. It has a hair dryer and toiletries in the bathroom. No coffee or tea in the rooms but they offer free tea and coffee in the lobby and free bottled water in the room. Resturant breakfast and dinner are decent but way overpriced, you can go a black away to Plaza Resturant and get a full breakfast for $3. The staff at the hotel are AMAZING, most speak pretty decent English and go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. They have excellent customer service at this hotel. I would recommend it to anyone.

We made this Hotel our base while staying in Equador and altogether stayed 12 marvelous nights. The hotel is perfectly positioned in Historic Centre of Quito and is a two minute walk to the main Plaza. The rooms are more like suites, large and spacious with either an upstairs or downstairs sitting room. The public areas are restful and comfortable with good amenities for example plenty of PC's and printer as well as tea making facilities. The architecture of the Hotel is original colonial and is charming and quirky. The comfortable bar was the original stables. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious with eggs or pancakes made fresh to order.
Outstanding feature are without a doubt the highly trained, courteous friendly staff for whom nothing was too much trouble.

Room Tip: 207 to 2012 are large with separate sitting room

This was a very pleasant hotel with helpful staff. It was very convenient to the old town of Quito. Breakfast was always easy before we began our day trips. I would highly recommend it for anyone. There was a family communion party while we were there and the staff was great about the children throughout the hotel.

Room Tip: They do not have an elevator so you may want to ask for a lower floor room.

Stayed in Quito at the end of a long trip to peru and Ecuador. Hotel andaluz was excellent.
Hotel has a quirky design with two story rooms and facitities over two or three levels. The food is good and is traditional ecuadorian. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Maybe the best thing about the hotel is that it is in the centre of the historic district and all of the interesting places are within short walking distance.
The centre of quito is not everyone cup of tea but I loved it. My only regret is we were only there for a short time and couldnt see it all.

Lovely hotel. Very convenient location and friendly, gracious staff. Food at restaurant was delicious and breakfast was great and plentiful. Loved the omelets. Our room was large and well appointed with comfortable bed.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are quieter and have better plumbing.
