I "splurged" on this property thought an online discounted room. At the discounted rate, the hotel was a real value and very luxurious compared with what I was used to during the rest of my trip. The location made it easy to spend the whole day in the historic center, dropping in and out of the room to take breaks and enjoy the room and the nice common space. The WiFi was a little spotty and the water pressue and temp was not what I had hoped. Bottom line was that was well worth my discounted rate, but not sure would have felt the same way if had paid the full rate that I've seen published on some sites.

Very good location in the old town. Nicely renovated hotel. Great setting.

Spaciuous room with adequate bathroom. Stairs to upper level are indeed a bit slippy so need caution! internet worked just fine.

rooms are noisy due to wooden floors, central restaurant and old construction - acknowledged by hotel who offer ear plugs if reqiured! This is addressed on information in roo.

The Hotel Patio Andaluz was a great introduction to our first trip to South America. Built in a colonial-style home with a great history, the hotel was physically lovely, with a large courtyard (covered by a transparent roof) dining area, a separate bar and sitting area, and atrium-style walkways around the second and third floors. Both our rooms and the kids' were two stories, with a spiral staircase leading up to the second floor.

The staff spoke good English and was very helpful when an A/C malfunction in the middle of the night necessitated a move to our kids' room (which, with a king bed on the first floor and a queen bed on the second, was plenty big enough for all of us). They also quickly and graciously refunded us for two nights in the deficient room.

The food in the restaurant was excellent, with live music the night we ate there. We also enjoyed the complimentary house cocktail. There is also a nice gift shop in the lobby, with local handicrafts. The location of the hotel is very good (unless you're driving -- hard to manuever a car in Historic Quito with narrow, one-way streets!), just a few short blocks from the central plaza. The police presence was fairly extreme, so we felt completely safe.

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: They offer earplugs because of noise potential from early-morning departures -- you might want to br...

Location

The Hotel Patio Andaluz, where we stayed for 2 nights in mid August, is in the old part of Quito in the UNESCO world heritage area with narrow winding steep streets a little reminiscent of Quebec City (only with Spanish architecture instead of French) and without the surrounding walls.

One block to Plaza de Armas!!!

History

The hotel is in a building 500 years old and a “national monument” building. A refurbished and converted mansion which has been linked to a couple of similar adjoining buildings. It is typical of a 3 storey “fortified” Spanish building of the colonial period with exterior blank walls forming a barrier to the outside world and interior central courtyards in a quadrangle arrangement providing light and external space. The building provides many of the modern conveniences despite the attendant problems of converting a very old building never designed for the purpose.

Ambience

Polished floorboards, high ceilings, tasteful decor, period uniformed staff, carved winding staircases and the building's layout create the ambience of history, wealth, and prestige of the period

Our room which was at the very rear of the building on the top floor (no lift) overlooks the rear leafy courtyard/atrium with plants, casual seating and large carved statues of colourful rainforest parrots and pan flute music with forest sounds playing during the afternoons and early evenings. Linking the rear and front courtyard/atriums is a library/sitting room with tea coffee facilities and the front courtyard is the restaurant with a soaring three storey high atrium with glass ceiling.

The Room

Due to the original building layout, the only light that can reach the rooms comes through from the central courtyards glass in the doors or light wells in the corners of the building, luckily our room is in the back corner on the top floor corner and has both.

My main wishes are for a more comfortable bed and more airflow as the room becomes very stuffy without the door open which is impractical.

Some things you need to know.

The advertised WiFi doesn't work in the room and only works in parts of the public areas and a weak signal at that.

The restaurant food is OK, nothing startling, but all edible and offers a choice of local and international dishes. Included breakfast was average to good.

Some of the rooms looked very pokey, not sure if these are tariffed differently.

The rooms get stuffy on warm days or if you spend a lot of time in the room.

If you expect all the staff to speak perfect English and not patient enough to get your message across - Hello! these people are native Spanish speakers and try their best

There is no elevator!

Room Tip: Check our your room type/size before committing. Ask for a single level room (some are two small a...

The hotel is in a great location for enjoying the historic center of Quiot - just a couple of blocks off the central square. Our first room required us to climb a slippery spiral staircase to get to the sleeping area and bath and faced a very busy street - avoid such rooms. Our other room, after we retunred from the Galapagos, lacked an exterior window - which is actually a plus with the street noice - and was all on one floor - much better. Front desk service is gracious (as was service in general) but slow since they don't have modern IT. We stored luggage while away and the staff had trouble finding it, but eventually did. Very pleasant restaurant in a courtyard, with live Ecuadorian music.

I work in the tourism industry and this hotel has provided the worst internet service ever. They definitely should not mention their free internet as you will spend hours and hours and end up with a few minutes of internet.
On top of that, I got different explanations from the front desk. Every time I called, they said it was going to be fixed in 10 minutes and I end up calling 5 times. They even offered to call me but they never followed up. Very disappointing service.

So if can live without internet, this would be a very decent hotel. Located near the Centro Historico, it has a nice restaurant on the patio which does provide good service.

What's up with the electrical outlets? Our room had only one outlet and the ones connecting the lamps couldn't be removed.

The hotel definitely has "old world charm" and we had two delightful meals in the dining room. But the bedrooms are very dark and noisy. We stayed two nights before and after a trip to the Galapagos. Each time we had an "inside room". No outside light- very claustrophobic. The first night we overlooked the dining room where there was music playing that kept us up part of the night. We heard from other people, who had an outside room, that the street noise kept them up.
The dark decor of the room and the lack of light, made the room unpleasant.
