Today is our last day at Minka and we are so sad to leave. My husband and I are 50ish and our daughter is 17. We were all very comfortable. Fell in love with the staff who will do anything they can to help you. Such a loving bunch. Chopper, the Argentinian chef makes fabulous dinners for $5, Spanish class with Carolina was perfect, she worked very hard to make our lessons specific to each of us. Comfy bed (the Basilica), hot water, full kitchen, porch for smokers. This is not a party hostel, but you can buy a liter of beer for $2.25, and people are playful and fun. In addition to the 4th floor reception/common area/smoking porch, each floor has its own sitting area so you can get some solitude if you're staying in a dorm, which was also very nice. We highly recommend Minka!

We had a great stay at Minka Hostel. The property is great with lots of space to meet other traverlers. Also the beds were really compfortable and the rooms quiet. All in all loved it and will definitely come back!

My boyfriend and I would recommend this hostel literally to everyone. Why? First of all, the people who work there are amazing. They try to help you so much and want your stay to be really nice and you can also talk to them if you want too, since they’re all young and funny, it's a great atmosphere.Sometimes they were a little slow and it could be difficult to communicate with some of them if you don’t speak spanish. But their character made up for that. They call you a taxi every time you need one and have informations about how to get to the bus terminals and which busses to take. Also, they offer a safe airport transfer for 26-30USD.The common area is really chill. It looks super nice, has hammocks, a billiard table, a kitchen to cook on your own, some tables and a terrace . It’s nice just to hang out.Sometimes there are evening activities. We saw beer pong on the plan for example but weren’t in the hostel that day.One evening the cook made delicious crepes for dinner, which you could eat for a few dollars. They also offer breakfast (7.30-10 am), which is super good and you can choose between different types everything for 3USD including coffee. But since you also have a kitchen, you could cook on your own too.Apart from that you feel super safe, because the door is completely locked and can only be opened from the reception when they see your face over the camera. Also from the inside you’re not able to open the door on your own, they do.In a city like Quito that’s quite important. The area, the hostel is in (northern centre), is also very good, it's only a short walk to the old centre (it’s up&down though). The Basílica del Voto nacional is even just one block away. If you want to discover the city during the day you don’t even need a cab or a or a bus, just walk. We also liked our room, it was cute, we had a lot of space, the bathroom was good and it was all clean (not German standards - you never get that -, but really good south american cleanliness). It was a little bit cold at night but the blankets were really warm, so it didn’t matter. The water regulator from the shower was kinda weird (switching between cold and warm&finding the right temperature was difficult),but it was still all good and we had hot water. You can’t expect everything to be as good as in Germany, that’s just not reality in South America. So it was all above standard.100% recommended. It's a perfect mix,you can meet other people and have a fun time but it's also not super loud at night

Room tip: We had two different private rooms, both were really nice. I can't say anything about the dorms.

Great envioroment and atmosphere, they have their own restaurant ran by an argentinian chef. The staff are always willing to help the clients and making the stay a wonderful experience. They also offer free walking tours and afordable one day tours. Best hostel in town!

This was one of the best hostels we stayed in in all of South America; the staff are very helpful with anything you need, the breakfasts are really good (albeit not included in the price) and the rooms were good and clean. The showers were great IF/WHEN they were warm - judge your timing carefully! Lovely upstairs common area. They picked us up from the airport which was great and hassle free!
