“Wonderful day trips!”
Reviewed June 22, 2014

The office staff at Happy Gringo was very responsive during the planning stages of our trip which was so nice. We had a half-day tour of the old town with Andres then a full day to Otavalo. Andres was calm, informative, and just a very pleasant man to spend the day with. And he made great recommendations for lunch!

Then on our last day in Ecuador, we flew back to Quito from Cuenca where we were met at the airport by Christian. Our plane was very late but he was there, patiently waiting, with my name on his sign! Christian usually does the adventure tours--diving with sharks in the Gallapagos, kayaking down rapids in the jungle--I don't know how he got stuck taking my old-lady self up to Cotopaxi for the day! But he was so charming and sweet--he patiently showed me and my son the area then drove us back to the airport to catch our late night flight back to the US. It was a nice way to spend the day.

Happy Gringo has some really good people working for them. I highly recommend them.

“Fun half day tour of Quito's markets”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

Gabriel met us at our hotel right on time with a private car. He was a super guide for my family's (11 & 13 year old kids) half day tour. We all enjoyed his interesting information on the city, culture and country. We had chosen this tour because it took us to some all sorts of local spots. The market was very colorful. He helped us purchase some local fruits that we tried later on that day. My kids loved the stop at the candy maker's shop, and the local chocolate shop stop. My husband and I were very impressed with the Oswaldo Guayasamín art museum.

The half day tour was the perfect length. Gabriel dropped us off at a nice restaurant, and then we explored later that day a local crafts market that he had recommended. .

He also gave us a great tip on what to do with our six hour layover in Quito airport at the end of our trip. He suggested we take a short taxi ride to the Hacienda Rincon de Puembo. This allowed us to get out of the airport, eat a great meal and walk around the quaint town before flying home.

We are the only travel company offering the Quito reality tour - a more local experience than the traditional city tour - so it is fabulous to know that your family enjoyed the itinerary so much. I certainly agree that the Guayasamin gallery is extremely interesting and one of my favourite places in the city. I have also passed your feedback onto Gabriel who was very pleased! Thanks, John

“Wonderful 3 week tour round Ecuador”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

My husband and I(60) researched Ecuador and sent a list to Happy Gringo to ask if they could arrange the 3 week tour for us. They not only did this but also recommended some additional places. We first spent a couple of days on our own in Quito with our daughter, and then started our organised tour. The drivers and guides were brilliant - really helpful and informative, and as we were their only clients/passengers we could request where and how long we could spend in different places. The 2 main people were Christian (near Quito) and Milton (Avenue of volcanoes)
After Quito at the start of our tour, we went to Otovalo market and then spent the evening listening to Indigenous music. The next day we visited a waterfall, music and weaving workshops and walked up the mountains surrounding Lake Mojanda. Beautiful scenery.
We then flew to Coca for a wonderful trip to Sacha lodge in The Amazon - 4 days. Spectacular canoe rides, walks in the jungle, climbs up the tower for canopy walks and a visit to an indigenous village
After this we went to Bellavista in the cloud forest to see humming birds and the newly discovered mammal - the olinguito. Again, wonderful walks through the forest.
We then went to Cotopaxi volcano - climbed up to the refuge at 5000metres, visited the lake, did horse riding round the park and a walking trail.
The next few days we drove down the Avenue of the Volcanoes, visiting Lake Quilatoa - an emerald green crater lake, stayed in Banos and visited the hot spring baths, and visited the valley of waterfalls. All amazing places.
Then we spent market day at Guamote village - an absolutely amazing experience, - one suggested by Happy Gringo. A really non touristy experience, especially as we were staying at Inti Sista, a hostel supporting the local community.
After this we went on the Devil's Nose rail journey and then visited Ingapirca - some Inca ruins, before spending a day in Cuenca - another beautiful colonial city.
We then flew to Guayaquil where we met our driver who took us to Puerto Lopez. We stayed there for 5 days. One day we went to Isla de la Plata (poor man's Galapagos). Another we went to Agua Blanca (archeological site). The rest of the time we spent lazing on the beach, exploring the area and visiting the fishing village where we watched the locals bringing in their catch.
We then flew back to Quito and then home.
Throughout our trip we stayed in wonderful traditional accommodation - a really interesting mix. These were all arranged by Happy Gringo.
We mostly ate in the hotels but also visited some local restaurants.
The whole trip went really smoothly and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Evelyn arranged it all and was very helpful with our questions and with her suggestions.

“After frustrating contact with 22 other online providers. . .”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

we took an affordable cruise suggested by Happy Gringo. Our goal for the cruise was simple: we wanted a week on a boat that would be transportation to various islands, a cabin to sleep in and healthy meals. We were fortunate to find the Guantanamera. The captain, crew and Javier, the guide, went out of their way to be helpful. The food was fresh and varied. The other passengers (also nature-oriented), were a range of ages and backgrounds yet shared our interest in seeing wildlife. An unexpected bonus: the. mid-week dance party where we danced for hours to recorded Latin music on the upper deck (while drinking caipirihnas). The guide even played the Guantanamera song. We had spent the week before doing land-based tours on San Cristobal and Santa Cruz. The Guantanamera cruise was a complement to the tours we organized on our own. Muchas gracias to Maria Paulina and Happy Gringo team for all the
help!

“Happy Gringo personalized tour”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

We used Happy Gringo to organize 9 days of travel in Ecuador after we had completed a week's cruise in the Galapagos. We told Evelyn where we wanted to go and she made it happen, even including 2 friends we met on our Galapagos cruise. The guides and drivers were excellent, always adapting to the travelers' desires (can't do that on a group tour). The accommodations were all lovely with the personal touch that comes with local arrangements. I would have no hesitation in recommending this company to a friend.
