Got to la Ronda around 6 pm, no one else was open. We walked into their alcove restaurant, and the restaurant owner personally opened up the restaurant for us when we asked for soup. We were the only ones upstairs, chose a table by the window overlooking la Ronda, with a charming view of the street outside, the street vendors, and the people walking by. The soup was delicious and cheap compared to other places we'd been, and even though there wasn't salad on the menu they threw together one for us when we asked. Afterwards they called a taxi to send us back to hotel. Wonderful and thorough service, and delicious food!

This is my second time at La Negra Mala; both times for a pit stop after sightseeing in old town Quito. The owner and staff bend over backwards to see that you are happy. This time - empanadas and the best coffee ever. I asked for cream and they brought out real heavy cream. It was magical - sitting in the coolest place, looking out the window over La Ronda and hearing the bustling street below. A must see stop on your trip to Quito!

Like other reviewers we discovered this place by accident. After arriving from Lima we wanted a few beers and a snack. We wanted nachos but it was not on the menu. The owner heard us mention nachos so she ran to the corner store and got corn chips for to make some nachos.

We discovered " La Mala Negra" quite by chance.. the food was excellent. We were attended in the most delightful way by the extraordinary owners ( a doctor and his wife (an engineer), and greeted by the cook at the end of the evening.. a wonderful young man from Otavalo who is studying to be a hydraulic engineer.. a little bit of magic!

I've been to this restaurant both times I've visited Quito. The food is delicious! The prices are cheap and the owner is the nicest man. La Ronda is a busy area, but the restaurant is so calm and peaceful. They have live music on Friday nights as well.
