If you're going to be in Quito, you have to stop at the Basilica. It's only $2 for foreigners to get in and you can climb to the top for amazing views. You have to cross a sketchy bridge and climb up some questionable ladders, but once you get to the top, it's totally worth it!

“Great attraction”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

I visited this Basilica today and was very impressed. Firstly the interior is wonderful - reminds one of the Mon Mater in Paris. Then I climbed the bell tower which was stupendous. U get the view of all the old city for only $2.00. In any case Quito is terrific, but a Lottie's dangerous , so snatch your belongings and don't go out at night with anything on u!

“A cathedral of all cathedrals...”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

The archeicture of this massive building has to be some kind of engineering feat. Os ornate,so big, the huge bronze doors are overwhelming. Every detail inside is so wonderful catholic or not it makes you want to sit down and meditate the statues inside are just breath taking.
Be ready to climb many, many, many stairs but well worth evert step. The gothic style is just marvelous, takes your breath away... Marvelous and another must add on to your bucket list

“Tower tour before church tour, do both. Plan 2 hours.”
Reviewed February 6, 2014

Take the tower tour first, so you'll appreciate where you've been when you're on the floor of the cathedral looking up, way up !

“Gothic Church of Gothic Churches”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

Who was to know that in Quito, Ecuador would be one of the most impressive one in the world. First it is the largest neo-Gothic basilica in the Americas. What it is really noted for are the native forms of Ecuadorian animals, armadillos, iguana, and tortoises. This also includes bronze images of the apostles. There is a crypt containing several of the heads of state. All of this for $2.
