“Fascinating view”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

At the basis of Pichincha Volcano, close to the down town, the basilica was buildt for more than 100 years! In it, you'll see a fusion of architecture in the mixture of typical symbols of the andean culture with catholic images.
You can go to the highest part and take the most beautiful pictures of Quito.
It has also a tiny, but cozy restaurant with good tradicional food.
Looking forward to going again!

“Quito Landmark . . . you have to”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

This massive basilica with detailed, ornate architecture stands out from any view within range. Such a classic landmark it is pretty much a must see to complete the Quito tour.

“I'm not a church person, but this was impressive”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

We spent a good hour exploring this Gothic style church, looking at the stained glass windows. Climbing to the top of the towers is a must.
There is a spectacular view of Quito from many different vantage points.
They had so many flowers in the actual church section which all smelt beautiful.
The church took many decades to build so you can appreciate the architecture and all the little details...

“Looks like my childhood church”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

I loved this church. Looked like the childhood church I attended when I was little and just brought me back great memories. The stained glass was wonderful and the flowers left over from the Easter holiday smelled the whole place up. Go here and spend some time.

“Wonderfully Unique Architecture”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

You don't need a long time to stop here and we didn't even go inside but you have to see the uniquely done architecture. The church took over 100 years to build and is truly special in that it is adorned with locally inspired gargoyles. You will have a good view of Old Town as well from the site.
