Owner description: Once serving as a lively commercial center during pre-Columbian times, this large cobbled square is dominated by the enormous Iglesia de San Francisco and the monastery of the same name.

There is always something happening on the plaza every Saturday. There are concerts, festivals and indigenous markets. The only problem is finding out what is going on when.

I regret to say that I didn't find anything within and around this plaza that would make me want to stay there for more than 30 minutes. However, I enjoyed at least walking through it, especially because you get a great view of the statue at the top of the mountain. Personally, I wouldn't go out of my way to see the plaza (go inside the beautiful old churches instead!), but if you happen to be walking near or through, you can certainly appreciate what it has to offer both locals and tourists alike.

A bigger plaza than the Grande, loads of small business around it, and very busy. There is a lovely café on one corner which serves strong Ecuadorian coffee, great to pass the time away. the security here stops any street sellers from bothering you. That's it really, good to visit as part of a walk around old Quito.

This opening Plaza with the San Francisco church in the back and the 2 trams each sides, doesn't offer much. There is no place to sit, no plant, no trees, just a few vendors sitting on the grown and the police watching for security. Compare to other Plaza...it needs a little something

This was the location of our hotel and so we spent a lot of time in the square. There is a simple restaurant with outside seating in the square. It has an attached crazy free "museum"/ shop under the church. At first it looks just like a gift shop; but it goes into a tunnel that never seems to end. Search it out as it is a great and free 20 minute diversion that is actually quite fascinating.
