“Walking into the Past”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2014

If in Quito, strolling around the sights of Old Quito is worth a few days. There are many plazas, churches, small museums, and local people going about their daily lives. The area is quite safe. The pace of life seems slower, not as much traffic as in the other more modern parts of the larger city.

“Very nice old town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2014

nice old town, the largest in South America as far as I've seen them, the streets like la ronda were a bit deserted at night, apparently there are more tourists in July/August

“Crowded, but worth a visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014

The cobblestone streets and archways reminded me greatly of Europe. The traffic was not good at all, but sidewalks were manageable for pedestrian use. There were "tourist police" stations everywhere, so I felt safe the entire time.

“I need oxygen!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2014

My 32 students and 5 chaperones traveled with our guide to the Old Town on our first day in Quito. It was interesting to have our bus driver negotiate the narrow streets and he only had to back up one time to avoid knocking down one of the poorly-located street vendors. This was a great opportunity for my students to experience some of the culture of this area and to appreciate life in Ecuador. The streets are interesting and quite steep! I wouldn't have minded keeping an oxygen tank handy as I was quite winded after our hour stroll!
