Lots of local tourists on this Sunday. Not too many foreigners. Churches were all open for viewing. Spent 6 hours exploring.

“Wonderful old city!”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

The old city in Quito is very interesting. The many old churches and their differing architecture are exquisite not to mention incredible detail inside each of these old places of worship.... amazing to say the least. The old cobbled streets with their buildings of Spanish heritage are in most cases in excellent condition allowing the traveller to picture what Quito must have looked like in its early days. The old city is very safe with a large police presence in all the tourist areas. The old city is an area that needs to be explored if you plan to visit Quito!

“What a wonderful area to explore, during the day only though”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

The old town is wonderful to explore, during the day only since everything pretty much closes around 6 pm. It was very safe, filled with lots of attractions. I was disappointed though with the variety of food choices in the old town.

“Quite Quito”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

I did a quick tour of the Old Town with a Gate1 travel tour. While we did not have enough time to fully explore everything there was to offer, I still enjoyed my time spent here. From reading travel books and websites, it sounded like the Old Town is full of crime. However, we all felt totally safe and there were police and security officers everywhere. Just watch out for the little shoe-shiner kids who might also be looking to pick-pocket.

“Quito old town is historic, charming and safe”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

Quito Old Town is really interesting if you appreciate old world architecture, splendid churches and plazas. Many of the buildings are hundreds of years old and the whole area has a very historic feel to it.

We felt completely safe and there is an incredible police presence in the city. There are police on virtually every block! In the main tourists areas there is tourist security as well.

Old Town Quito also has many pedestrian only streets and it is a great walking city. We enjoyed Calle La Ronda, which is about the only "tourist" street in a city that is not at all touristy.
