“What a great walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013

Despite having visited old town many times before, I really enjoyed walking around on a Saturday, watching families and tourists and seeing some new sites. It was safe and comfortable and felt like a home away from home.

“Charming architecture abounding?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

What a beautiful city. The buildings were history themselves. Each different, and beautiful colors. The charm always begins with the surroundings. The police were plentiful, helpful with info and directions. We were looking for Republic of Caco shop, and several police along the way helped. At last two walked us to the door. Had a wonderful lunch, and ice cream later. Don't miss this town.

“Safe and beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

Wonderful buildings and architecture, a vast range of eateries and safe. Very well policed so that you can feel comfortable walking around which is the best way to see it. Don't miss the Grand Plaza, especially on a Monday morning when the President comes out to make speeches, the guard is changed and anyone who want to protest turns up with banners and well behaved supporters. Also don't miss the ice cream shops. Delicious.

If you're shopping, streets seem to be arranged by subject so that most of the fabric shops will be in a cluster and likewise for shoes, jewellery and so on. Make room in your luggage as prices are good.

“Super pleasant zone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

There are areas of Quito that are not wise to wander in. This spot was safe, pretty, cultural, restful with piped in music during the day and full of activity at night. They seem to be expanding the district. Wise move.

“Nice town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

Quito is a huge, modern city, and a lot of things are so spread out that it takes so much time to get from one place to another in bus. With that said, coming to the old town, with its narrow streets, hilly ways, and lovely old buildings, is a nice break from the above-mentioned Quito. We were limited on time, so we didn't explore as much I would have liked, but there were a lot of interesting places such as the plazas, the palacio, the view el panecillo, the cultural center, etc. etc. There was a very long line to get into the palacio the day we visited, so keep that in mind. We saw several people taking city tours, which is probably a good idea considering all the history surrounding. Spend some time here - more than just a few hours, and visit at night, as well. I would have loved to see that, and I'm sure the view from the hill would have been amazing.
